ach year we greet our incoming freshman class with great anticipation and a deep sense of pride. We know Ethat these students, the newest members of the Molloy community, have come here by choice because something we do here inspires them. We also know that when they graduate, these students will make a difference in their chosen fields and in the communities where they live. At the start of the 2011-2012 academic year we welcomed 403 first-time freshmen (an increase of more than 30 percent since 2001) and 520 transfer students to our campus. It is truly excit- ing to see the size of our student population increasing, but that is only part of the story. Our admissions process has become much more selective and the application process more competitive. The average freshman SAT score, for example, has increased more than 61 points since 2006. In Fall of 2011 honors students made up 16 percent of the total freshman class. Just seven years prior, in Fall 2004, honors students made up just four percent of the freshman class. The College’s graduation rate for first-time freshmen is 63 percent, which is well above our competition’s rate of 54 percent. This reflects not only the academic strength of Molloy’s students, but also the programs and resources we have in place to support them during their college careers. Our student-athletes continue to make us proud, both on the playing field and in the classroom. Our student-athletes have the highest graduation rate in the East Coast Conference (ECC) and 52 percent of the student-athletes attained a 3.2 GPA or higher.

olloy continues to expand and build upon existing academic offerings. In the Fall of 2011 we began Mour new Speech-Language Pathology master’s program, exciting news for our already-thriving program. The stu- dents’ experience in this program continues to be enhanced at The Molloy College Speech-Language and Hearing Center where they spend time working with actual clients under the close supervision of their professors. We expanded our international education offerings to in- clude more diverse destinations. Semester abroad opportunities in London, Italy and Belgium were available as well as a summer study program in Spain. Student options for international travel included Jamaica, Ireland, China, and France. Participants in these programs tell us that travel has altered their world view and increased their feelings of self-confidence. The Humanities Division, in conjunction with the Molloy College Irish Studies Institute and the James Joyce Society, hosted Molloy’s first Bloomsday celebration: A Tribute to James Joyce and Ulysess. The celebration, partially funded by the New York Council for the Humanities, took place on June 16, which is the date of the action in the novel. Bloomsday is celebrated throughout

The event is an annual high point of our new Ph.D. program and showcases the research and scholarship of Molloy faculty and students. Reaching beyond the physical walls of the Col- lege, more than 85 high school students from Long Island and Queens attended the third annual Business

he Fall 2011 semester brought some very significant physical changes to campus. As a result of the most successful capital campaign in the College’s history, the campus now boasts a Tresidence hall, a new student center and a state-of-the-art, 550-seat theatre. These changes were designed to offer students an enhanced college experience by providing expanded resources and increased opportunities to interact. Fitzgerald Hall, Molloy’s first residence hall, opened in the fall and the option to reside on campus offered students a new dimension to their college experience. The facility was named for Molloy’s fourth president, S. Janet Fitzgerald, O.P., Ph.D., during a dedication ceremony held in May 2012.

12 Over 150 students reside in the residence hall, developing friendships and participating in Molloy’s rich campus life. The opportunity to live on campus was also offered to international students and the 2011-2012 academic year saw students from Norway and England call Molloy home. Our new student center, the Public Square, not only offers students additional gathering places, but added academic resources as well. There are multiple study/meeting areas, an art gallery, a coffee bar, a game room, and the information commons (with computers available for student use and a librarian on staff to assist with research). The building also houses services dedicated to the student experience including: the office of student affairs, campus ministries, international education, student media, student government and various student clubs. The open

13 14 design of the Public Square encourages conversations of significance to take place among members of the Molloy community. The Madison Theatre at Molloy College, located in the Public Square, opened in November of 2011 with an all-star gala event. The 2011-2012 theatre season brought many well-known performers to the new venue, including Martin Short, Bernie Wil- liams, Rachel Dratch, Mario Cantone and Scott Adsit. The theatre hosted a wide variety of community and educational programs as well. The South Shore Symphony and the Children's Orchestra Society utilized the facility for practices and performances. We sponsored a summer theatre/music inten- sive program for aspiring performers, and The Race to Nowhere documentary was the subject of a passionate panel discussion sponsored by the Division of Education, just to name but a few of the diverse events we hosted.

ur Rebecca Center for Music Therapy is being funded to participate in an international research study as the OUnited States clinical/research site. Sponsored by The Grieg Academy for Music Therapy Research Centre, Uni Health, Uni Research, the study will investigate the effectiveness of music therapy for children with autism spectrum disorders. The internation- al collaboration includes eight countries worldwide: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Israel, Korea, Norway and the United States. The Sustainability Institute at Molloy College received a grant from the National Grid Foundation to implement a Teaching Green Institute under the auspices of our Division of Continuing Education and Professional Development. The summer institute is attended by secondary school science teachers dedicated to the teaching of sus- tainable practices, and generates a wonderful opportunity to impact the lives of thousands of Long Island students as well as the environ- mental future of Long Island. Molloy was named a "Catholic College of Distinction" by guid- ance counselors. This honor is based on four evaluation criteria: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes. Once again The Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report chose Molloy as one of the best colleges in the northeast. According to the annual PayScale College Salary Report, Mol- loy graduates rank fifth in the nation for salaries of recent graduates. Molloy was just four spots below MIT in this national survey. olloy’s athletes continue to strive for excellence. MFor example, Stepha- nie Meyer not only broke the Molloy school record for the long jump with a 5.77 meter jump, she also qualified for the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. Other noteworthy performances in- cluded the women’s softball team win- ning the NCAA East Sub-Regional title, earning Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke her 200th career victory. The team was led by ECC pitcher of the year Kelly Jan- sen. And for the third year in a row, the men’s cross country team placed second in the East Coast Conference Champi- onships, Molloy’s first-ever qualifier for this event. It is certainly worth mentioning that both our men’s and women’s Rugby Clubs were nationally ranked this year.
