Award-Winning Platinum-Selling R&B Hitmaker Bunny Sigler Award-Winning Platinum-Selling R&B Hitmaker Bunny Sigler Delivers First Gospel CD Releasing August 19, 2008 Artist’s Inspirational Debut To Feature Jeff Majors; Project Released On Label Headed By Sigler And Veteran Entertainment Attorney Lloyd Zane Remick August 4, 2008 (FPRC) -- Walter \'Bunny\' Sigler is a legend in his own time. The history of R&B and urban music is peppered with hits from the ground-breaking pioneer. A songwriter, performer and producer, Sigler is the force behind mainstream songs like Instant Funk’s \'I Got My Mind Made Up\', Patti Labelle’s \'Somebody Loves You Baby\', The Whispers’ \'Bingo\', Jackie Moore’s \'Sweet Charlie Babe\' and The O’Jays \'Sunshine\'. Sigler, who has worked with other legends such as Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff, Curtis Mayfield, Phyllis Hyman, Lou Rawls, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, and Chaka Khan and countless others, has amassed recordings sales (as an artist, producer and songwriter) of over 35 million units. But for Bunny, his incredible achievements are just a comma as he delivers one of his most anticipated recordings, his first gospel album. The Lord’s Prayer is the icon’s first official full-length foray into sacred music. The 12-track project will be released on Bun-Z Music & Records, LLC, a joint venture with long-time friend and entertainment attorney, Lloyd Zane Remick, and distributed by Edmondson Communications, Inc., on August 19, 2008. Although this is the artist’s initial inspirational release, Sigler joined with gospel artist and harpist Jeff Majors on \'Psalm 99\' found on Majors’ Sacred Chapter 6. Majors returns the favor on the single, \'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot\', which contains the unique stylings of the harpist. Taking one of the most memorable songs in church music, Sigler provides a riveting interpretation of \'The Lord’s Prayer\', the CD’s title tune. His singing career began in church singing songs like \'O Lord My God\' and \'The Lord’s Prayer\' as a youngster. Sigler sees this new album as a return to the music that he’s always loved. But for him, it’s about much more than the music. The project is an outward expression of his relationship with Jesus Christ. \'I’m in this for real,\' says Sigler. \'Although I’ve sung urban music, I never stopped singing gospel music. For me, it’s all about ministry. It’s such a joy for me to sing gospel music and to sing in church. I know it was God who instructed me to do this project now.\' Sigler’s close friend and label co-owner is thrilled to be part of the upcoming release. Having represented countless mainstream personalities including Grover Washington, Jr. and Pieces of a Dream, as well as preachers like Bishop T.D. Jakes and Bishop David G. Evans, Remick is passionate about furthering the message that Sigler sings. \'Music is a universal language. And what song is known more universally than ‘The Lord’s Prayer’?\' says Remick. \'I also believe that the music Bunny is singing can help change the world. I know it might sound a little idealistic, but I believe music has the power to unite us.\' Sigler will be supporting the new release with upcoming tour dates. • Typologies of Black Male Sensitivity in R&B and Hip
Chaney and Mincey: Typologies of Black Male Sensitivity in R&B and Hip Hop JOURNAL OF HIP HOP STUDIES . Typologies of Black Male Sensitivity in R&B and Hip Hop Cassandra Chaney and Krista D. Mincey Abstract A qualitative content analysis was conducted on the lyrics of 79 R&B and Hip Hop songs from 1956-2013 to identify the ways that these Black male artists expressed sensitivity. The songs were determined by Billboard Chart Research Services, and Phenomenology provided the theoretical foundation on which the themes were identified. Qualitative analysis of the lyrics revealed Black male sensitivity in R&B and Hip Hop to be based on the following four typologies: (a) Private Sensitivity; (b) Partnered Sensitivity; (c) Perceptive Sensitivity; and (d) Public Sensitivity. Private Sensitivity occurred when the Black male is alone; feels lonely; disguises or hides his tears from his romantic partner or others; and expresses a determination to not cry and/or continue crying. Partnered Sensitivity occurred when the Black male encourages and/or connects with his romantic partner, other men, and/or members of the Black community through crying. Perceptive Sensitivity was demonstrated when Black men acknowledge the tears shed by others, and shed tears themselves while being conscious of society’s expectation that men suppress emotion and/or refrain from crying. Public Sensitivity was exemplified when the Black male cries publicly and verbally expresses that he does not care what others think of him. Qualitative examples are provided to support each of the aforementioned themes. R&B and Hip Hop are two music genres that have gained global appeal in recent years.

  • A Conversation with the Architects of the Philly Sound, Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff Scott Paton
Unedited version of Goldmine cover story, Issue #737, Oct. 28, 2008 A conversation with the architects of the Philly Sound, Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff Scott Paton A step into the lobby at 309 S. Broadway in Philadelphia is a step back into time. The gilded, gated doors close as the elevator operator punches the button for the second floor. Moments later, the pulleys and cable come to a stop, and the doors open on to a lobby and offices that seem frozen in time, some 30-odd years ago. To the casual observer, a professional makeover might be in order. But to a fan of early-‘60s pop or ‘70s soul music, the surroundings are resplendent in their untouched glory, a virtual shrine to two creative, indelible eras in recorded history. The home of Cameo-Parkway Records from 1956 to 1967, this building drew aspiring songwriters, from near and far, hoping to pitch their tunes to the likes of Chubby Checker, Bobby Rydell and the Orlons. Among those young hopefuls were poet/lyricist Kenneth Gamble and keyboardist extraordinaire Leon Huff, and while their early attempts to “storm the castle” were often thwarted, they ultimately ascended to become the preeminent writer/producers on the local scene, and the most important force in R&B/Soul music since the heyday of Motown Records. In 1972, they purchased the building for their own enterprise, Philadelphia International Records. As architects of “the Philly Sound”, Gamble & Huff crafted sophisticated funk classics for the O’Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blues, Teddy Pendergrass, the Intruders, Lou Rawls and others that ushered in the Disco Era, setting a standard for dance- friendly, yet lyrical songcraft, that remains unmatched.
