MORGAN STATE - 18 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE - 21 OCT. 6, 2018 | BALTIMORE, Md. | Hughes Stadium (8,103) BALTIMORE - Tyrece Nick’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Omar Cummings with 70 seconds remaining sent South Carolina State past Morgan State, 21-18 on Satur- day during the Bears Homecoming celebration at Hughes Stadium. • The Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak and extended its all-time series record against Morgan State to 32-6-1 since 1971. SCSU has won 11 of the last 12 meetings (2003-2018) against the Bears. • South Carolina State jumped out early on a 11-yard touchdown run by sopho- more Jarius Jenkins at the 6:13 mark in the first quarter. Morgan State responded off a 34-yard pass from Corey Holmes to DeAndre Harris to close out the quarter to push the lead 11-7 over the Bulldogs. • The Bulldogs responded off a 1-yard punch by red-shirt sophomore Tyrece Nick with the only score in the second quarter with 6:01 left. South Carolina State led 14-11 during intermission. • In the second-half, both teams played tight on defense to remain scoreless entering the fourth quarter, until junior running back Jordan Riggins scored on a 13-yard scamper to give the Bears an 18-14 advantage with 10:55 remaining. • With 2:24 left, Morgan State missed an opportunity to extend the lead when Alex Raya’s 27-yard field goal was off to the left. Nick then proceeded to lead a 7-play, 80-yard drive for the game-winning score. • The Bears took the ensuing kickoff and marched to South Carolina State’s 22- yard line with 20 seconds to play. But on first-and-10, Scott Robinson intercepted DeAndre Harris - who threw into double coverage - in the endzone to preserve the win. • Nick led the Bulldogs (1-4, 1-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) with 139 yards passing and 45 yards rushing and a touchdown. Morgan State quarterback Harris threw for 141 yards and touchdown, ran for 78 but was intercepted twice. • Morgan State (1-4, 1-1) managed to outgain the Bulldogs 339-275, and held the ball for almost 36 minutes.
