Google Scholar Search http://apps.kemi.se/ Lignosulfonates are precipitated as calcium salts from spent process liquid, black liquid, from sulphite plants by means of lime, 90-95 % of the lignosulfonate is gained. Sometimes sugar from the spent lye will occur as a pollutant. Lignin containing groups can also be made from lignin won from black liquid from the sulfate process for pulping that is more common in Sweden and is then called sulfonated lignin. Such sulphate lignin has a more uniform composition than sulfite lignin. World production of lignosulfonates is estimated to be about 800,000 tonnes and of sulphonated lignine 15,000 tonnes. In Sweden, lignosulfonates are produced at Domsjö.

Local: Lignin is the most abundant natural on earth after cellulose. It is found extensively in the cell walls of all trees, plants, and crops It forms the woody cell walls of plants and cements with cellulose. The exact chemical structure is not known because their structures are complex with many random couplings. Lignin is a byproduct of the lumber industry. Lignin is separated from paper- sulfite liquor. are solubilized and the products are referred to as lignin sulfonates (also called Lignosulfonates and sulfite lignins) which are hydrophilic. In the kraft pulping process, sulfate lignins (also called kraft lignins) are derived, and the products are hydrophobic. Lignin sulfonates possesses some amounts of natural sugars. It is thought that these sugars makes them useful fungicides. Lignosulfonates are nontoxic and very in many industrial applications including:

 as a binder in ceramics carbon black, fiberglass insulation, dust suppressants and soil stabilizers  as a dispersant in dyestuffs and wettable powders for pesticides, fungicides, oil drilling muds  as an emulsifier of wax, asphalt, dyes and agrochemicals.  as a chelating agent of micro-nutrients for fertilizers, water treatments and cooling systems  as a water reduction agent in cement mixes, concrete admixtures, in plasterboard manufacture  as an additive for floating in water system.
