SPEAKER in the Chair] GLORIA THOMASOS-POLLARD (DEATH OF) Mr. Speaker: Hon. Members, since the last sitting of this honourable House, it has come to my notice that a former Member of this House has died, and this person is Gloria Thomasos-Pollard. She had served in this House for a five-year period and her father had been the former longest serving Speaker in this Parliament. I thought that I should just bring this to the notice of hon. Members who may care to express condolences. The Minister of Housing and Settlements (Hon. John Humphrey): Mr. Speaker, anyone who has been in political life for as long as I have been would have known Arnold Thomasos when he was Speaker of this House. Those who, in fact, were in this House when he presided as Speaker would have known that he did not tolerate nonsense; he was a very strict Speaker. We could only judge that, as a parent, he would have been as strict and added to the strictness would have been the principle of love for his child. I had the advantage of knowing the late Gloria Thomasos-Pollard because I served for a while in the government in which she was involved. I must say that my knowledge of her late father and herself confirm, in fact, what I started saying that Gloria did manifest discipline, friendliness, and strictness, but she was a delightful person and all of us have fond memories of our association with her and also with her late father.

Hip-hop-based education (HHBE) research analyzes how hip-hop culture is used to produce favorable educational outcomes. Despite its richness, the work reveals little about how to prepare practicing K-12 teachers to use HHBE toward the critical ends reflected in extant HHBE literature. In this article, we challenge many tacit assumptions of HHBE research by examining the curricular and pedagogical wants and needs of in-service teachers who are interested in HHBE but who are not familiar with hip-hop’s unique history and culture. Through a collaborative self-study with a teacher-educator, we, as Black male hip-hop insiders, reflect on the promises and pitfalls of preparing predominantly White teachers to incorporate hip-hop into their teaching and learning repertoire.     ADAM AND THE ANTS Adam and the Ants were formed in 1977 in London, England. They existed in two incarnations. One of which lasted from 1977 until 1982 known as The Ants. This was considered their Punk era. The second incarnation known as Adam and the Ants also featured Adam Ant on vocals, but the rest of the band changed quite frequently. This would mark their shift to new wave/post-punk. They would release ten studio albums and twenty-five singles. Their hits include Stand and Deliver, Antmusic, Antrap, Prince Charming, and Kings of the Wild Frontier. A large part of their identity was the uniform Adam Ant wore on stage that consisted of blue and gold material as well as his sophisticated and dramatic stage presence. Click the band name above. ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN Formed in Liverpool, England in 1978 post-punk/new wave band Echo and the Bunnymen consisted of Ian McCulloch (vocals, guitar), Will Sergeant (guitar), Les Pattinson (bass), and Pete de Freitas (drums). They produced thirteen studio albums and thirty singles. Their debut album Crocodiles would make it to the top twenty list in the UK. Some of their hits include Killing Moon, Bring on the Dancing Horses, The Cutter, Rescue, Back of Love, and Lips Like Sugar. A very large part of their identity was silohuettes. Their music videos and album covers often included silohuettes of the band. They also have somewhat dark undertones to their music that are conveyed through the design. Click the band name above.
