As GShade has expanded outward from Final Fantasy XIV to cover more games and possibilities, it became increasingly clear that keeping track of all installed copies of GShade was quite tedious. With this in mind, CHAPTERThe Control Panel 02 our developers put their heads together and came to the conclusion that for the benefit and sanity of all, it would be best to have a hub where you could access your installations easily to make updates and adjustments as you see fit. From this, the Control Panel was created.

Let us hop straight into things, the journey is far from over and there is still much for us to cover! Once your GShade installation is complete, you’ll now find a newshortcut icon on your computer’s desktop called “GShade Control Panel”. Assuming you haven’t already deleted, go right ahead and double click this icon.

In the off chance you have deleted the shortcut, you will also find it in the “GShade” folder under your start menu.

Once you have opened up the Control Panel, the first thing you are going to be met with is a sleek black window featuring our slogan “Beauty. Stability. Compatibility. GShade”, with a red button below it saying “NO UPDATE AVAILABLE”. To the left of this you have four tabs. The red tab called “Home” is the page you are currently on.

With every creation comes untold potential and progress. That is how the feature of this next chapter came to be. With you in mind, our developers took the next step in making things easier for you, the users. If only life came with one of these panels attached.

How to Change Presets CHAPTER 06 Hello again. Do me a favor and click on the “Home” tab! Presets and Techniques With a fresh install of GShade, by default, the drop-down menu box will say “Off.ini”. CHAPTERMini-Tutorials 07 HowTutorial to Use Layer.fx and Stagedepth.fx 01

Over the past year we have had two separate versions of this very same mini-tutorial. However, in recent updates, we now have a much easier way of doing things without having to rename files or wiggle them about.Let’s jump straight into the Overlay and grab a “Layer [Layer.fx]”. This is the screen you’ll be greeted by when you first select the Technique:

The first thing we need to do isopen up the Textures folder, you can do this by the following two options:

Option 1: Pressing the [...] button at the top of the Overlay to bring up your Presets, press “game” at the top in the address bar. Enter the folder “gshade-shaders” and navigate into the “Textures” folder.

Option 2: Open up a folder, then copy and paste into the bar at the top:

In this mini-tutorial, we will be taking a glance at our Shader called Silhouette. Silhouette is a peculiar and fun Shader, but one of our more artsy standalones. This beautiful little Shader allows you to literally silhouette things by utilising the depth adjustable layers known as Stagedepth.fx. Each of the DOFs have almost identical settings and will often work visually in very similar ways, however, they all have something that is different, whether it be below the surface in the coding, or on your screen where you can see it for yourself.

Looking at DOF Techniques ADOF is an automatic Technique which will set the depths and values for you and adjust to your screen based on what is closest to it. CinematicDOF is mouse driven, it will focus where you point your cursor, and even show you the levels when you click, allowing you a more precise view of what you are focusing on as it will show you a pink crosshair for viewable definition. On the other end of the scale, you have the less advanced DOF Techniques like MartyMcflyDOF, which often works better when “mouse driven” is turned on in it’s settings as like CinematicDOF, it allows you to decide where the focal point of the image will be.

Basic Settings Observation The settings under the majority of the DOF Settings will often have things like “FarBlurCurve”, “InfiniteFocus” and “BlurRadius”, these will allow you to determine how sensitive the mouse over and focal ranges are, and how much of a blurry background you should expect.

In example, for MartyMcflyDOF specifically, if you lower your“FarBlurCurve” to around 1.000 (the default is 2.000), you have more control when using the “MouseDriven_AF” selection making for more accurate definition in your screenshots.

Despite all of this, the best advice that can be given when you’re new is to simply test them out and find what suits you best! The results you can acquire with DOF is beyond spectacular, so don’t be afraid to play!

C:\Program Files\GShade\gshade-shaders\Textures Drag and drop your highlighted images straight into this folder. (You do not have to do these actions, the files are chunky!) If done correctly, you’ll be able to see the images pop into the If you download the whole folder (right click “4K Wanted Posters” at the folder and highlighted as they were top and hit “Download”) it will zip it up and likely save to your Downloads the objects being transferred in. folder. And you’re now done with the The file in question that will be downloaded will be a .zip of the contents Texture Installation! Yay! of the folder which consists of twelve (12) images. These can be used fluently with “Layer.fx” and “Stagedepth.fx”. Give it a go!

72 GSHADE VISUAL GUIDE GSHADE VISUAL GUIDE 73 gshade

ADDITIONAL Texture NOTE: If your image doesn’t match your screen resolution, the image will stretch upon import. You will need to fill in the “LAYER_SIZE_X” and “LAYER_SIZE_Y” input boxes for “Layer.fx” or “Stagedepth.fx” values under the preprocessor definitions inside the GShade Overlay.

Adding Optional Shaders At the time of writing, we don’t have any Optional Shaders to demonstrate this section with, so will just cover it basically: To install any Shaders that you have acquired for GShade, you will need to go to the folder that corresponds with your installation.

Default: C:\Program Files\GShade\gshade-shaders\shaders

Like with the ‘Textures’ we just covered, you will need to copy and paste the ‘.fx’ file into this folder in order for GShade to be able to detect it.

There is one last thing you will need to do assuming your game is still open: head back over to it, press [Shift+F2] to open your Overlay, and then press the nice big “Reload” button at the bottom.

The Shader will now be loaded! To uninstall them, you would simply go to the folders where you placed them and delete them! We also recommend moving them to the “Optional” folder or another folder when you don’t plan to use them—for your own sanity (especially if your computer is already slow).

WARNING To avoid errors in DirectX 9 games, Shaders which include the acronym “CS” or are noted by the author to be Compute Shaders need to be placed in the “ComputeShaders” folder.

As Gshade continues to grow and evolve, so do the Shaders involved with it. We have put together this handy list to be used as a general reference when creating your own personal Presets. You can technically put most Techniques anywhere (except MXAO, careful with that one—it has teeth!) CHAPTERProper Shader Ordering 09 so don’t be afraid to play with the ordering.

* = Only work properly in whitelisted and offline games. ** = Not currently included but provided for reference. *** = Use only one. **** = Use as few as possible. ***** = Compute Shaders. Only compatible with DirectX 11+, OpenGL, and Vulkan. p = prod80
