Never before have the roles and responsibilities of Public Health come so sharply into focus, with the response to the global Covid-19 pandemic and the need to protect our communities, reduced transmission and support the most vulnerable. Health matters to everyone and touches on every part of our society and the communities we serve, and its impact can have far reaching consequences not just for the current population, but for future generations. Fife like many Boards in Scotland is not renowned for being the healthiest part of the UK, but considerable improvements have taken place for example in addressing health inequalities, screening, smoking cessation, encouraging physical activity and uptake in our immunisation programmes.
