ARCHERY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA R E P O R T OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL for the period 1st July 2009 to 30th April, 2010 Dear Members of the Archery Family I am greatly honoured to welcome you all at the Annual General Council Meeting of Archery Association of India today, 22nd May 2010. It is my humble privilege and pleasure to present my report before the General body of Arch- ery Association of India highlighting the achievements and activities of the Association during the period from April 2009 to April, 2010. The numerous activities that were undertaken by the Association during the period are a clear testimony of the extent to which the plan objectives have been realized. The preceding year witnessed an intensification of AAI activities at all levels. I wish to place my special thanks and gratitude to SAHARA India Pariwar who came forward to join hands with Archery Association of India and gave away cash incentives of Rs.30 lakhs to achievers and promisers. While extending my good wishes for fruitful deliberations in the Annual General Meeting, I wish to put down the key achievement of Indian archery :- • India ranked 2nd as Nation in FITA ranking based on World Cup-2009 performance. • Indian Recurve Men team is still sustaining its 2nd position in overall world ranking. • Jayant Talukdar got 1st rank in World Cup-2009 and 4th position in world ranking. • Atanu Das and Seema Verma secured berth for Youth Olympic Games- Singapore. • Deepika Kumari emerges as a “World Champion” in Recurve Cadet Girls Category in Youth World Championship in USA.

  • Report of the Secretary General
ARCHERY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA R E P O R T OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL for the period 16th February, 2008 to 30th June, 2009 Dear friends, At the outset, it gives me immense pleasure in welcoming you all to this meeting being held today. I feel privileged to present my report in the capacity of Secretary General before this August House covering the period 16th February, 2008 to 30th June, 2009. Copies of Minutes of the last General Council Meeting of the AAI held on 16th February, 2008 at Delhi are placed for approval as Annexure (A) The Report is presented to you as a summary of the important events, developments and significant progress AAI has made as an organization during the period under consideration. I am sure you will enjoy reading. Upon reviewing the period, it was very important for AAI as we formulated our Strategic Plan and then began the important step outlined in our plan. The period of the report has been a very exciting and most successful in terms of achievements attained. I remember those initial days when Archery was confined to the East and the North East part of India. States like West Bengal, Manipur, Meghalaya, Bihar, Delhi and Assam used to hog all the limelight. But today archery has spread all over the country. Actually, Indian archery has seen a resurgence on two occasions; first from 1989 to 1992, often called the ‘Limba Ram period’, and then from 2003 to now, when new generation, namely Tarundeep Rai, Jayanta Talukdar, Rahul Banerjee, Mangal Singh, Satyadev Prasad, Viswash, Prabhat Kandir, Ravindhar, Palton in men section and Dola Banejeree, Reena Kumari, Chekrovolu, Bomabyla Devi, Pranitha, Jhanu Hansdah, Bheigyabati Chanu, Sakro Besra, Manjudha Soy in women have unveiled their talent.

Almost all countries of the world are making signi cant investment for the promotion of sports and games. Excellent performance in Olympics and other international sports events has become a matter of national prestige and pride and also an indication of quality of human development. India could perform well in certain sports disciplines like Hockey in the past. Some sports persons, through their individual brilliance, have also shown excellent performance in international sports events. The performance of India in the game of Cricket, with the stupendous public support and vast resources, is a milestone in sports in the country. But when we take an overall view, the performance of India in sports has not been optimal. Absence of sports culture, lack of suf cient facilities like quali ed coaches/specialists, sports infrastructure and inadequate sponsors to sportspersons for their training/coaching have been found to be some of the reasons for the sub-optimal performance. The National Sports Policy recognized the need to bring in adequate facilities for promotion of sports and games through various sources.
