  • Art. 9.- Subversiones De Género: Pioneras De La Psicología Chilena Y
Psychologia Latina Copyright 2010 by Psychologia Latina 2010, Vol. 1 No. 2, 129-138 ISSN 2171-6609 Subversiones de Género: Pioneras de la Psicología Chilena y Estadounidense Ximena Wolff Reyes, María Inés Winkler Muller y Katherine Alvear Parra Universidad de Santiago de Chile (Chile) Gender Subversion: Female Pioneers of Psychology in Chile and the United States. This investigation studies the work of pioneer women in psychology in the United States and Chile. The Americans are Mary Whiton Calkins, Margaret Floy Washburn and Helen Bradford Thompson and the Chileans, Lola Hoffmann, Héliettè Saint-Jean and Leyla Holmberg. We incorporate some historical background working with primary and secondary sources from a historiographical perspective, exploring the approach to ethical and gender issues in their life and work. We have found an explicit interest on ethical subjects in the work of Calkins. Even if Washburn did not write about the subject, she translated the work of Wundt (Ethical Systems), and Thompson worked on the differences between men and women. The three women faced gender discrimination; two of them (Calkins and Thompson) challenging some prevailing misogynous beliefs. In the case of the Chilean women, their applied emphasis reflects the scarce presence of ethical issues in their –also scarce- written work. The exception is Hoffman. Saint Jean and Holmberg aim toward an altruistic ethics in their special interest on disadvantaged groups, children and women. The academic and professional path of these pioneers is influenced and framed by the forms that the own discipline of psychology develops and by the impact of contextual, historical and cultural determinations.

THE CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK VIRTUAL SALUTE TO GRADUATES JUNE 30, 2020 THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK VIRTUAL SALUTE 2020 | 1 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear CCNY Graduates of the Class of 2020, There are moments in our history that impress an indelible mark upon us, when we are called to do extraordinary things under the press of an indescribable moment. Anyone graduating in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic will be marked by this extraordinary moment. But even among that national class graduating in 2020, you are different. At a time when the inequitable imprint of this scourge underscores the other inequities in our society, the City College—and those who work study and graduate from it—stand apart. You graduate from an institution established to redress inequality, an institution that each generation has the responsibility of scanning the social and Vince Boudreau political landscape, and setting its sights on rectifying that which sits most uneasily in President the light of that responsibility. It has been over fifty years since we have faced the kinds of challenges we face today to our democracy, to the fabric of our society, and to the health and security of our people. As an institution, we were made for this moment. As graduates of CCNY, you now shoulder the responsibility of giving voice to your vision of that just society, a vision we have worked to develop and instill in you all the days of your work with us. You have struggled, sometimes mightily and against long odds, to reach this day, and we beam with pride at your accomplishment.

FROM THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR MUSICAL THEAtre’s PresideNT Welcome to our 24th Annual Festival of New Musicals! The Festival is one of the highlights of the NAMT year, bringing together 600+ industry professionals for two days of intense focus on new musical theatre works and the remarkably talented writing teams who create them. This year we are particularly excited not only about the quality, but also about the diversity—in theme, style, period, place and people—represented across the eight shows that were selected from over 150 submissions. We’re visiting 17th-century England and early 20th century New York. We’re spending some time in the world of fairy tales—but not in ways you ever have before. We’re visiting Indiana and Georgia and the world of reality TV. Regardless of setting or stage of development, every one of these shows brings something new—something thought-provoking, funny, poignant or uplifting—to the musical theatre field. This Festival is about helping these shows and writers find their futures. Beyond the Festival, NAMT is active year-round in supporting members in their efforts to develop new works. This year’s Songwriters Showcase features excerpts from just a few of the many shows under development (many with collaboration across multiple members!) to salute the amazing, extraordinarily dedicated, innovative work our members do. A final and heartfelt thank you: our sponsors and donors make this Festival, and all of NAMT’s work, possible. We tremendously appreciate your support! Many thanks, too, to the Festival Committee, NAMT staff and all of you, our audience.

No, a typewriter. No, a toaster. No, a piece of pie.” These words were exclaimed by a visitor to Claes Oldenburg's 1961 East Village storefront, trying to figure out what product she had just been examining.2 As the viewer encountered a series of handmade objects representing mass-produced goods, she found herself in a storefront oddly mimicking a retail space, creating an ambiguous space where common distinctions between “art” and “commerce” had seemingly collapsed.
