The Rolling Stones by Putland". Pag. 2 / 2.

No less so with this image of a Gypsy Mother and Child in central Transylvania. I was taken to a family home that was part of a proud gypsy village. The family make beautiful baskets for a living and this is their entire world; one room served as a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and workroom. It initially felt very uncomfortable witnessing the poverty around me, which seemed to border on voyeurism, but I spent some time sitting on the earth floor with the older children, letting them use my camera and showing them the results. We had an empathy, a connection, one that you can only appreciate if you have respect and interest for one another. From that empathy came this image.” Equipment: Nikon D300 AF-S 18-105mm Nikkor f/3.5-5.6G ED Image taken at 18mm f/3.5 1/20 sec. Amazon Studios, Magnolia Pictures, & Low Mind Films In Association with Better Wide Present GIMME DANGER A Film by Jim Jarmusch Running time: 108 min Official Selection 2016 Cannes Film Festival – World Premiere 2016 Toronto International Film Festival 2016 New York Film Festival FINAL PRESS NOTES Distributed in Canada by Films We Like Bookings and inquires: [email protected] SYNOPSIS Emerging from Ann Arbor Michigan amidst a countercultural revolution, The Stooges’ powerful and aggressive style of rock-n-roll blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, the band planted the seeds for what would be called punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed. Jim Jarmusch’s new film GIMME DANGER chronicles the story of The Stooges, one of the greatest rock- n-roll bands of all time. GIMME DANGER presents the context of the Stooges emergence musically, culturally, politically, historically, and relates their adventures and misadventures while charting their inspirations and the reasons behind their initial commercial challenges, as well as their long-lasting legacy. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT – JIM JARMUSCH No other band in rock’n’roll history has rivaled The Stooges’ combination of heavy primal throb, spiked psychedelia, blues-a-billy grind, complete with succinct angst-ridden lyrics, and a snarling, preening leopard of a front man who somehow embodies Nijinsky, Bruce Lee, Harpo Marx, and Arthur Rimbaud. There is no precedent for The Stooges, while those inspired by them are now legion. GIMME DANGER is more an 'essay' than a document.

Visual Literacy (Images and Photographs) Every day, we see and are exposed to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of images that pass through our radar screens. Everyone, it seems, is vying for our attention. Unfortunately, not many of us know how to "read images.’ One of the ways to teach critical thinking and "media literacy" is to start with the still image. In many arts classrooms, “visual literacy” is introduced: the methods and techniques artists use to create meaning in paintings: that knowledge can now be applied to photographs as well. SC State Department of Education Visual & Performing Arts Standards (link to 2010 revision) 2010 Media Arts Standard Standard 3 (Media Literacy): The student will demonstrate the ability to access, analyze, interpret and create media (communications) in all forms. Teachers will recognize “analyze,” “interpret” and “create” as three of the verbs belonging to the Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning higher order thinking skills. Analyze (or analysis) is defined as: “breaking down objects or ideas into simpler parts and seeing how the parts relate and are organized” (source) Interpret is defined as: “to bring out the meaning of” whatever is seen (source) Creating is defined as: “putting the elements together to form a coherent or functional whole; reorganising elements into a new pattern or structure through generating, planning or producing” (Source) Creating sits at the top a new Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy.
