Decluttered your home during lockdown?... by Kim Parkinson THE Gisborne Habitat for Humanity ReStore charity shop is open and calling for contactless Looking to donate items to a worthy cause?... donations of quality used goods it can sell to raise funds for housing needs. Gisborne ReStore manager Elizabeth Cutts said they had put systems in place to ensure safe drop- offs of items and traceability. People who have decluttered their homes during lockdown and are looking to donate their secondhand items can use the booking system on the Habitat for Humanity website or the Gisborne ReStore Facebook page. Those donating items are required to fill in ReStore it information so goods can be traced if necessary. They will then be given a time when they can take the goods in and all donations will go into quarantine for four days before the Gisborne staff starts sorting. It is important donated goods are clean and sanitised, Ms Cutts says. There is an informative video on the Gisborne store’s Facebook page which shows how to clean and sanitise everything from clothing to books and crockery. All money raised from the sale of donated goods will go to the charity which ensures vital housing support for families. Habitat Auckland chief executive Conrad Lapointe said ReStore earnings were needed to support its home repair, progressive home ownership and rental programmes. “We know that people have been decluttering during the lockdown and would like to donate their household goods and furniture to a charity. But with Covid-19, they may be unsure how to do that safely.” Mr Lapointe said Habitat had taken professional advice and was following strict guidelines for handling and quarantining items. “Our ReStore workers and volunteers have set up the necessary contactless goods drop-off and quarantine systems that will help keep everyone safe. “Our practices are similar to those in place for people picking up retail goods in a contactless way, and with stringent controls inside our buildings. “We’re looking forward to helping people make that connection between decluttering and helping Habitat raise funds for housing needs. “And in turn, our ReStores will be able to help customers access affordable, clean, quality items they need when we can open again for in-store retail. “We have been busy selling goods online at Trade CLEAN UP, DROP OFF: Habitat for Humanity ReStore charity shop manager Elizabeth Cutts and assistant manager Me through the levels but stocks are starting to get Monique Rofe are accepting donations but point out goods must be cleaned first.
