All children in Years 4-8 will have an interview. Please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the event code bnafc to book your interview with your child’s / children’s teacher. The booking site will be closed off on Monday April 3 at noon.

Prayer for Lent Dear Lord, please help us to bear hardships and difficulties in life with grace, and a joyful attitude. Help us to trust that you will not force too heavy of a load on us. Increase our faith. Please have mercy on us when we are weak and weary. Sustain us with your grace.

Stations of the Cross will be held every Wednesday of Lent from 8 March at Johnsonville and Khandallah. At Newlands there will be Stations of the Cross during Lent every Saturday after the 5pm Mass and every Sunday after the 10am Mass. All 3 Churches will have individual confession available on the Wednesdays of Lent from 7.30 to 8.30pm.

Today we will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Father Doug in the school library at 11.00am.

This week our EPIC Award “EPIC Eddie” went to Room 2. The class are looking after each other. They play and work happily and peacefully together and say thank you when someone helps them. Recently Room 2 had a visitor in their room and they went out of their way to make her feel welcome. Everyone wants to help when someone gets hurt! They have been learning how to be a good friend, and part of this is knowing what to do when someone treats you in a way you don’t like. Everyone is practising positive, clever ways to deal with this, rather than telling the teacher straight away. It is challenging to be five and starting school, however Mrs Minto can see that the class is working hard to improve in their learning. They are working on holding pencils and scissors correctly, forming letters and numbers correctly, in addition to learning to read, write and do maths. Some children are getting a bit tired with all this effort, but no one is giving up. The children in Room 2 are EPIC.

With winter sports getting under way again and our school basketball, miniball and netball teams representing our school each week it is timely to think about how we can all demonstrate and model our EPIC Gospel Values for our students while they are representing our school. As parents, coaches and supporters the impact of our actions cannot be understated. If we are modelling the values we promote the children will do the same. For our St Benedict’s School teams we encourage participation, fairness and fun. Winning is always a nice bonus. How the students compete and win or lose is more important to us than whether they win or lose. The skills and attitudes in sports they develop at a young age will go with them through the years. We look forward to a great season of winter sports ahead.

We wish our Year 6 students all the best for their camp this week as they head off to Palm Grove tomorrow. This camp provides them with opportunities to build and develop their confidence, teamwork and collaborative skills and will help set them up for the challenges that lay ahead in the coming year.

Last week (Monday-Sunday) our solar panels generated 87 kWh of solar energy. Our school page can be viewed by clicking on the St Benedict’s School Schoolgen link: http://schoolgen.co.nz/schoolgen-schools/st-benedicts-school.

Kind Regards Dave Lamont Principal

We are requesting ALL families to submit the following online form, even if your details remain the same as last year. This will make our job a lot easier as otherwise we will need to input your details ourselves which creates more work at our end and can result in mistakes.
