Woodland View Ward 5 Woodland View Information for you Recovery that benefits individuals, families, carers and communities Ward 5 is a residential unit, which provides a specialist service for residents of Ayrshire and Arran over the age of 16, who have an alcohol and/or drug problem and mental health issues. The ward has 10 beds for residential care; 5 for rehabilitation and 5 for detoxification with 8 day care places available. It is situated within the grounds of Woodland View, Ayrshire Central Hospital. Ward 5 provides a flexible service based on the needs of each individual person. The main treatment is through 1 to 1 support and group work, with each workshop designed to support each person on their road to recovery. Treatments available consist of: • A detoxification programme (usually up to 1 week) • A residential 4 week programme • Assessment of mental health and wellbeing • A structured day attendance programme Who does Ward 5 work with? We work with a wide range of partner organisations (including third and voluntary sector organisations) to support an individual’s recovery. We will also link clients in with peer support groups and activities. 2 Committed to the protection of children and vulnerable adults Recovery that benefits individuals, families, carers and communities How can Ward 5 help you? Alcohol and drug misuse can affect your physical and mental health, your relationships, your employment as well as your ability to cope with everyday life. Factors such as age, family support, lifestyle, personality and personal belief may also determine how drugs or alcohol affect you. Recovery means different things to different people and no two people will have the same recovery journey. -

However, despite this, our dedicated staff continued to cope with the ever increasing demand for independent advocacy in East Ayrshire. Workloads continue to increase and staff constantly juggle their time to ensure that those most vulnerable in our community are enabled to make their views known. We are very grateful to our funders East Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire and Arran for their continued commitment to independent advocacy, particularly in these times of budget constraints and efficiencies. Also, many thanks to each and every member of staff and my fellow Board members for all their hard work and commitment. -

25 FARMER, POET, LOVER, EXCISEMAN ROBERT BURNS (1759-1796) liza Fay discovers to her chagrin that her husband is devoid of both good sense and Efidelity; Robert Burns, though unable to wed a woman who satisfies his intellectual as well as his emotional and physical needs, finds in marriage a happiness he does not expect. Luckily for Burns, the son of a poor tenant farmer in Ayrshire, education is more valued and more widespread in Scotland than in England, and his father sends him to a country schoolmas- ter, who introduces him to English and Scots lit- erature and teaches him French, though not the Latin drilled into the sons of gentlemen. He goes on to win a local reputation, and then national fame, for poems written in Scots, some of them directed against the reactionary party in the Presbyterian Kirk, while he creates a record of his life in letters written, and well written, in standard English. A few of the letters sketch characters like the “flesh-disciplining god- ly matron” who fears Burns is but “a rough an’ roun’ Christian” and pic- ture scenes like the drinking party at which all knelt while the poet “as priest, repeated some rhyming nonsense.” However, his principal achieve- ment as a correspondent is to share his wide-ranging emotions, which are usually strong and often stormy. From passages often enriched by literary allusions and a wealth of metaphor and simile, we learn of his conviviality, his amorousness, his oscillating feelings about human nature, his esteem for personal honesty and independence of mind, his love of liberty, his Scottish patriotism, his fury against the bigotry of some (not all) of the cler- gy, and his love of poetry. -

EAST AYRSHIRE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE PARTNERSHIP INTEGRATION JOINT BOARD: 25 JANUARY 2017 REPROVISIONING OF INPATIENT CARE AT KIRKLANDSIDE HOSPITAL STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT PROCESS UPDATE Report by Annemargaret Black, Head of Community Health and Care Support Officer - Irene Campbell, Programme Improvement Manager PURPOSE 1. The purpose of this report is to provide an update to the IJB on engagement plans that intend to support service change and re-provide inpatient care previously delivered from Rowallan Ward on the Kirklandside Hospital site. A previous verbal report was provided to East Ayrshire Integration Joint Board on 24 November 2016 and NHS Ayrshire & Arran Board meeting held on 12 December 2016. 2. This report sets out the proposed engagement process and associated activities in line with Scottish Government’s CEL4 Guidance on Informing, Engaging and Consulting People in Developing Health and Community Care Services. BACKGROUND 3. The 2016 Community Hospital Review in East Ayrshire recognises the value of services provided from Kirklandside Hospital to patients, their families and staff. Kirklandside was built in 1909 and following contraction of services over the past decade hosts the Rowallan Ward building which until recently had a total of 25 beds, one male and one female ward. Both wards were Nightingale Wards, a style that is in the form of now very unusual in 21st century healthcare systems. 4. The Review presented both quantitative and qualitative data ensuring that the staff views were presented in the report. The review highlights that the Nightingale Ward described above is not conducive to modern healthcare delivery and does not meet quality, dignity and privacy requirements that people deserve. -

EAST AYRSHIRE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE PARTNERSHIP INTEGRATED JOINT BOARD 4 FEBRUARY 2016 WOODLAND VIEW PROGRESS REPORT Report by the Director of Health and Social Care INTRODUCTION 1. Due for completion on 18 March 2016, Woodland View is the new mental health and community hospital facility at Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine. The new development will have 206 single occupancy bedrooms each with ensuite shower rooms and a full range of therapeutic support accommodation within 11 single storey wards each with private courtyard gardens and a range of community and treatment services including outpatients over 2 floors. 2. The design of the new development provides the best possible healing environment for patients and a safe and inspiring working environment for staff. It is based on a holistic view of wellbeing and addresses the psychological, emotional, physical and physiological needs of both patients and staff creating a therapeutic environment. 3. The flexible accommodation is designed to easily adapt to new models of care which focus on the recovery, rehabilitation and enablement of individuals from North, East and South Ayrshire and to provide a hub of community resource to be flexibly used by other agencies, partners and the public. To record consent, we suggest an independent witness observes the completed form then signs a fresh copy outside of the isolation area. Consent can also be obtained by telephone from participants or from relatives for proxy consent. RECRUITMENT PACKS: Sample collection kits will be supplied to sites.
