Family 2021 18th Annual MAIT 3 MONTVERDE ACADEMY INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT Welcome to MAIT 2021 Dr. Kasey C. Kesselring Head of School, MAIT Founder, Montverde Academy Welcome to Montverde Academy. Our mission is to inspire students to become leaders with a passion for knowledge, global vision and innovation while developing character in a nurturing and diverse community. Athletics is an extension of that mission, teaching skills and technique, as well as motivation, self-discipline and an abundance of character. We do not measure our success by the wins and losses alone, but in how our student-athletes represent themselves and the Academy through sportsmanship and a commitment to perform at their very best. Our athletes are students first, and athletes second. As a college preparatory school, we expect our athletes to first master the challenge of being a good student and a good citizen within the school community. The measure of that accomplishment is again not found in wins and losses, but when a student has earned an invitation to attend one of the nation’s most competitive colleges or universities. While blessed with a successful basketball program that has achieved much local and national attention, it would be irresponsible of me as an educator and Head of School to allow this to define our existence. Founded in 1912, Montverde Academy has a long history of preparing young people to achieve great success in a variety of careers; today is no exception. I am equally proud of our students who are accomplished artists, musicians, debaters, actors, and academicians. The diversity of our student-athletes is representative of our school community. Montverde Academy students, representing more than 60 different countries, have traveled here to prepare for and pursue a dream of attending the most selective and prestigious colleges and universities. Having them here provides a global perspective unlike any other. On behalf of the entire school community, I welcome you to Montverde Academy! Dr. Kasey C. Kesselring Head of School Montverde Academy 4 PROGRAM GUIDE 2021 Good Luck Eagles! The 6-foot-8 native of Arlington, TX led the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 20.1 points per game, which included a season-best 40 points in a win over No. 7 ranked Oklahoma on Feb. 27. He also averaged 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest and was a nine-time recipient of the Big 12 Player/Newcomer of the Week honor, which was the most by any player this season and the most in school history. “Cade Cunningham is easily one of the top three or four players in college basketball and nobody would argue if you said he is the best,” said Angela Lento Vice President of CollegeInsider.com. “The only thing disappointing about his game is that we won’t see it, at the college level, for more than one season.” Cunningham’s sensational season included several prominent honors including First Team All-America honors from the Associated Press, USA Today, the Sporting News and the United States Basketball Writers Association. He is also a finalist for the Naismith Trophy and the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year awards. MEMORANDUM February 4, 2020 VIA EMAIL TO: NCAA Division I Directors of Athletics, Senior Compliance Administrators and Men's Basketball Head Coaches. FROM: NCAA Academic and Membership Affairs and Enforcement Staffs. SUBJECT: Information Regarding the 2020 National Basketball Association Draft and Combine, Agents and Workouts. The purpose of this document is to provide an educational resource you can share with your men's basketball student-athletes with eligibility remaining who may have a desire to "test the waters" as it relates to their pursuit of a potential professional basketball career. You are encouraged to discuss this document with those men's basketball student-athletes who are gauging their readiness for competition at the next level through a variety of methods, including tryouts with professional teams. These student-athletes will undoubtedly rely on several individuals to assist in the decision-making process. At the end of this process, your men's basketball student-athlete may reach the conclusion that it is not in his best interest to pursue a professional career at this time, but rather to continue athletics participation at the intercollegiate level while pursuing his academic degree. Involvement in activities during this process can affect his intercollegiate eligibility. The following information is designed to help him maintain his NCAA eligibility while "testing the waters."1 1 NCAA bylaws are subject to change. This document is for educational purposes only and does not usurp or supersede current NCAA rules. Student-athletes with questions relating to their NCAA eligibility should contact the NCAA compliance officer at their respective institution to ensure an accurate interpretation of the bylaws.
