Holcombe Hockey Club Saturday 3rd October 2020 4pm Holcombe Ladies vs Wimbledon Ladies 6pm Holcombe Men vs Wimbledon Men 2 19 Welcome We extend a warm welcome to our visitors Wimbledon HC and their travelling supporters today and we thank you for restricting your support today to help us manage numbers during these challenging times. We also welcome our officials; for the Ladies game at 4pm umpires Rebecca Woodcock and David Howell and at 6pm umpires Will Champness and Martin Twist. For both games our Match Official is Stephen Mason. We ask all spectators to wear a face covering today unless seated in the Clubhouse, and please be mindful of the volunteers on duty today directing you to the safest spots to spectate. Across the country there has been an enormous effort to get hockey up and running again but with escalating cases being reported daily in the past fortnight we must ‘raise the bar’ to do our utmost to protect you and keep the sport we love ticking over. In the ladies match visitors Wimbledon made a great start to the season at home against Swansea before losing on the road to ‘seasoned opposition’ in the form of Clifton Robinson. Holcombe started with a loss to Loughborough Students who confirmed their early season promise with a draw against Surbiton last weekend. Holcombe responded last weekend with a good win again Swansea. Two very strong squads coming up against each other today. In the men’s match, Wimbledon continue to recruit high quality players year on year rd to add to an already impressive squad that saw them finish 3 last year – losing Ed Horler was a big blow but they will fancy their chances to be in the mix come the end of the season.

Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club Newsletter January 2017 Keeping Vice Presidents and Friends in the know Welcome This is the eighteenth in our series of Newsletters. It marks a new scheme of trying to provide more relevant news quicker by reporting during the mid-season break in the National League calendar. It may be briefer but will be followed by an end of season edition as customary, although that, too, may have less content, for hopefully obvious reasons. Executive Summary The Club is in good heart, with both first teams well placed in their Leagues, the Women seemingly able to avoid the post promotion effect and able to maintain their showing of last season as newcomers. The Men have seen the hard work of pre-season reap rewards. A new team has evolved in quick time and has enjoyed success not seen in recent seasons and are well-placed at just more than the half way stage. Up to 14 January 2017, in the London League the Men’s 2nd XI and 3rd XI are leaders in the Premier Division and Division 1, respectively. Zak Hond XI are in ninth spot in the same League Division 1. The 4th XI are in tenth position in London League Division 2. In Division 3, the 5th XI are league leaders, with nine wins and three losses, a point ahead of London Wayfarers. In Division 5, the Hammers XI are in fifth place. Division 6 has two H&W teams: the Spaniards XI are fourth and the Thirsts XI are fifth. The Vets sit top of Veterans Division One, with nine wins and three losses but the Supervets are struggling a little, being seventh of eight in Supevets Division 1, helped by a win on 7 January 2017 against Chelmsford.

Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club Play Off News Summary April 2017 Keeping Vice Presidents and Friends in the know Welcome This will be brief and is an attempt to record the events of last weekend rather than wait until the autumn and the next Newsletter. There are a few other items of news that can usefully be added now. MEN’S HOCKEY LEAGUE FINALS For probably the best summary of Saturday’s match, we are indebted to the Ham & High Hampstead & Westminster saw their hopes of glory at the Hockey League finals weekend ended by Premier Division champions Wimbledon after a slender loss at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre. A pair of short corner goals in the first half proved decisive, despite Richard Alexander’s fourth-quarter reply, as Hampstead were to reflect upon a history-making campaign and their first appearance at the sport’s showpiece event. Hampstead made a bright start, with Michael Watt forcing a kick save from James Bailey inside the first 90 seconds, but Simon Mantell fired into the side netting at the other end for Wimbledon and saw Phil Ball’s reverse-stick effort deflected behind by David Kettle. The deadlock was broken on eight minutes, though, when the Premier Division champions won the first penalty corner of the match and Mantell drilled a low shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. Kwan Browne tried to respond for Hampstead with a run from deep, but Wimbledon’s defence held firm to deny entry into the D with a good stick tackle and a long pass then found Chris Gregg on the left, with his reverse-stick drive parried by the pads of Kettle.
