  • Bellator MMA Signs the Unmistakable Kimbo Slice to a Multi-Fight Contract
He’s Back! Bellator MMA signs the unmistakable Kimbo Slice to a multi-fight contract SANTA MONICA – (January 16, 2015) The legend of Kimbo is back on Spike. One of MMA’s most recognizable names, the wildly popular former internet sensation Kimbo Slice has signed an exclusive, multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA and will make his promotional debut later this year. Bellator officially announced the signing moments ago on Spike TV during the “Bellator: Pitbull vs. Straus” event when Bellator’s Jimmy Smith caught up with the Miami slugger via Skype (#technology). “I’ve been trying to keep busy as much as possible,” said Slice. “Been boxing over the past couple of years. My current record [as a boxer] is 7-0. Bellator is up there in the tops and they’re giving me the opportunity to fight on primetime and Spike TV. You know you can’t resist Spike TV. “You gotta think, I’m still hungry out there. I haven’t got my fill yet. Whoever steps up to the plate, they got to bring it. I’m comin to get it.” “Anyone who has been to a Kimbo Slice fight has felt a thick, electric, tension in the air,” said Bellator President Scott Coker. “The man has a proven knack for evoking excitement every time he steps inside a cage, and that fits perfectly with the kind of fights we aim to put together.” Born in the Bahamas and raised in Florida, Slice started his combat sports career on the streets of Miami, where he competed in unsanctioned prize fights on camera.

It focuses primarily on the political campaign to ban the sport in the 1990s and the repercussions that campaign had on MMA itself. Furthermore, it examines the censorship of music and video games in the 1990s. The central argument of this work is that the political campaign to ban Mixed Martial Arts was part of a larger political movement to censor violent entertainment.

  • The Rise and Rise of the UFC (Or Will Oversaturation Lead to Its Downfall)
(Cite as: Laws of the Game, ISSN: 2058-7244) Volume 1, Issue 1 Article 2 From rags to riches: The rise and rise of the UFC (or will oversaturation lead to its downfall). R Savage-West Abstract In 1993, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) promoted a “no holds barred” mixed-martial arts contest designed to answer the perennial combat sports fans' question - can a wrestler beat a boxer? Considerable blood, sweat and (some) tears later, the UFC has turned into a multimedia corporate behemoth. This article will analyse the origins of the Ultimate fighting Championship and its continued struggle to gain mainstream acceptance and regulatory approval. In particular, the article will analyse how the UFC has shifted between subscription-based channels, event pay-per-view television, free-to-air shows and non-traditional media channels such as social media and user-generated content depending on how acceptable its product was deemed for the public. The article will conclude by arguing that while UFC has expanded globally and now dominates the mixed- martial arts industry, the ever-increasing demand for high-quality events taking place against a backdrop of corporate respectability, may eventually alienate its core market and lead to an ultimely demise…. The largest competitor was a sumo wrestler who weighed in at 415 pounds.8 However, the smallest competitor, Royce Gracie, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist who weighed a 1 Ultimate Fighting Championship, UFC 1: The Beginning, http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=EventDetail.fight Card&eid=2&mode=poll (last visited Nov.
