Palavras-chave: Mighty Sounds, Punk, Música, Festivais de Verão, República Checa, Praga 3 Abstract Although Punk has emerged in the late 70s as a revolutionary counter-culture that opposed the prevailing social values of English society, the industry quickly absorbed this social movement. -

Rastalogy in Tarrus Riley's “Love Created I”
Rastalogy in Tarrus Riley’s “Love Created I” Darren J. N. Middleton Texas Christian University f art is the engine that powers religion’s vehicle, then reggae music is the 740hp V12 underneath the hood of I the Rastafari. Not all reggae music advances this movement’s message, which may best be seen as an anticolonial theo-psychology of black somebodiness, but much reggae does, and this is because the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley OM, aka Tuff Gong, took the message as well as the medium and left the Rastafari’s track marks throughout the world.1 Scholars have been analyzing such impressions for years, certainly since the melanoma-ravaged Marley transitioned on May 11, 1981 at age 36. Marley was gone too soon.2 And although “such a man cannot be erased from the mind,” as Jamaican Prime Minister Edward Seaga said at Marley’s funeral, less sanguine critics left others thinking that Marley’s demise caused reggae music’s engine to cough, splutter, and then die.3 Commentators were somewhat justified in this initial assessment. In the two decades after Marley’s tragic death, for example, reggae music appeared to abandon its roots, taking on a more synthesized feel, leading to electronic subgenres such as 1 This is the basic thesis of Carolyn Cooper, editor, Global Reggae (Kingston, Jamaica: Canoe Press, 2012). In addition, see Kevin Macdonald’s recent biopic, Marley (Los Angeles, CA: Magonlia Home Entertainment, 2012). Kwaku’s work is a testament to Brent’s contribution to the evolution of British black music and the commercial infrastructure to support it. His research contained separate sections on labels, shops, artists, radio stations and sound systems. In this version we have amalgamated these into a single ‘encyclopedia’ and added entries that cover the period between 2007-2020. The process of gathering Brent’s musical heritage is an ongoing task - there are many incomplete entries and gaps. If you would like to add to, or alter, an entry please send an email to [email protected] 3 4 4 HERO An influential group made up of Dego and Mark Mac, who act as the creative force; Gus Lawrence and Ian Bardouille take care of business. -
Postcolonial Metaphors, Symbolic Binarism, and the Caribbean Terrain
IOSR Journal of Humanities And Social Science (IOSR-JHSS) Volume 26, Issue 4, Series 6 (April. 2021) 58-64 e-ISSN: 2279-0837, p-ISSN: 2279-0845. www.iosrjournals.org Postcolonial Metaphors, Symbolic Binarism, and the Caribbean Terrain Dr. Chris Egharevba & Kufre Egharevba University of Uyo, Uyo, Nigeria Abstract It is hard to peg postcolonialism by a particular definition. As a matter of fact, there are differing views as to the classification of certain works as postcolonial or not. One of the generally acceptable thoughts about postcolonialism is that the works of Frantz Fanon laid a good foundation and eventual structure for postcolonial studies. Clearly, however, the postcolonial ideals have been further developed by scholars like Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak and even Homi Bhabha through their various contributions. This paper does not intend to spotlight the works of these great scholars but to apply some of their thoughts to the postcoloniality in contemporary reggae music that springs from the Caribbean. Although with a solid foundation in roots reggae, contemporary reggae has advancing beyond the temporal restrictions of roots reggae, its antecedent, to heighten emphasis on social issue, spiritual longings and the personal in arresting postcolonial realities. The state of contemporary reggae as a socially conscious au/oral art thus begs sustained scholarship in examining how it rests on an established heritage to engage and reflect on topical 21st century postcolonial conditions in the Caribbean. With its theoretical approach grounded in postcolonialism and its selection of Jah Cure’s and Natty King’s reggae songs—two contemporary reggae artists—the paper examines conception of unity, love, and equality as envisioned by the selected contemporary reggae artists. -
