Tony proceeded to use the gauntlet to disorient the Winter Soldier using a sonic pulse and flash of light, emulating a flashbang grenade. This only temporarily stunned Barnes, forcing Stark to engage in a brief fistfight with the former, who pointed a handgun at Tony's face and pulled the trigger, but Tony stopped the bullet by placing his gauntlet over the gun's barrel. Barnes then punched Stark several feet backwards, knocking him down and out of the fight. It condensed Marvel Ironman: The Gauntlet a bracelet that Sonny wore that could turn back into the gauntlet. He used the gauntlet while being hunted by Electro. While it initially knocked him back, he quickly learned how to counteract its blasts. MCU Iron Man runs the MCU gauntlet - Battles - Comic Vine He was, however, not referred to by name until the first issue of Avengers: The Initiative. His origin was finally revealed in the Avengers: The Initiative annual. The story of the Gauntlet began when two aliens of unknown origin, one fully armored, the other multi-limbed, engaged in a struggle to the death above Earth. Both extraterrestrials expired upon entering the atmosphere, and their weapons scattered across the planet's surface. The US government tracked the crash site of two Marvel Ironman: The Gauntlet the armored alien's weapons to the Middle-East, where Sergeant Joseph Green was dispatched to secure the area. Upon arrival, Green's unit came under attack by HYDRA troopers, forcing him to use the right gauntlet of the alien's armor in order to defeat them. After securing victory, Joseph found himself unable to remove the gauntlet, and was seen walking away from the area, carrying the alien's sword with him. How Marvel Ironman: The Gauntlet alien's other Marvel Ironman: The Gauntlet was acquired by Southpaw has Marvel Ironman: The Gauntlet yet been revealed, nor has how the alien's leg armor came to become part of the costume of Grasshopper. However, the opposing alien's weapon later found its way into Armory 's possession. In the aftermath of the Civil War storyline, Gauntlet was recruited by Henry Peter Gyrich into being a drill Marvel Ironman: The Gauntlet at a superhero training camp. He is fully aware of the "darker" aspects of the training camp and is apparently willingly going along with some hidden agenda by the powers behind the camp's running. Gauntlet also lives with his wife and daughter on base. He has confided in his wife that he only wants to prepare the recruits for the rough life of being a superhero and is only harsh to them in order to do so. Any sort of harm that befalls the recruits he takes as a personal failure for not teaching them well enough. After the events of World War HulkGauntlet is angered at the many cadets who had broken orders to confront the Hulk themselves. The team had recently learned of a social movement, indicated through 'NW' graffiti, of young people in general defiance of the current power structure. Upon regaining consciousness, he identified his assailant as the Ghost. However, it's later revealed to the reader that the attacker was none other than base recruit Slapsticktaking revenge for Gauntlet's pejorative use of the New Warriors' name. After the weapon successfully bonded with KIA, the clone's flooded with memories of the original MVP 's death, seeking vengeance on those involved in the death. Upon arriving at Gauntlet's hospital room, the clone is surprised to find Gauntlet's bed empty. Following this, it appears the gauntlet weapon itself is temporarily controlling Green, forcing him to acquire the sword element of the alien's armor. During an invasion of Earth by the Skrull EmpireGauntlet and Taskmaster attempt to ensure the safety of the cadets at Camp Hammond by locking down the facility. Following the invasion's end, Gauntlet is placed in charge of the Camp Hammond facility; many of the other instructors left, unwilling to place themselves under Norman Osborn 's control, and the real Hank Pym declined to be a part of the Initiative, as he was never really there in the first place, leaving Gauntlet to reluctantly assume the position. When Osborn threatened to take Gauntlet's arm, Gauntlet escaped and ultimately joined the Avengers Resistance. During a raid on a robot hideout, one of the robots self-destructs when cornered by War Machine and Gauntlet. Maria Hill mentioned to War Machine that Gauntlet will be in the hospital for a few weeks. Joseph's right hand is fused to a large, robotic gauntlet of alien origin, which is able to manifest a right hand made of pure energy that is larger, stronger, and more durable than his own. The gauntlet itself appears to have the Marvel Ironman: The Gauntlet to exert a certain degree of control upon Green, specifically when he is in a state of low-brain activity. In one possible, seemingly inevitable, future timeline, the Gauntlet inspires Southpaw to reform, and become a superhero, while his daughter Kid Glove acts as her sidekick. He sports a more traditional superhero costume and is seemingly linked to a cosmic event known as "The Reckoning War". From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. A major critique of the genre is that it simply represents an adolescent male power fantasy; and presents a world view that valorises masculinist individualism.

  • Female Representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Volume 10 Issue 2 (2021) AP Research Superheroines and Sexism: Female Representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Folukemi Olufidipe1, Ms. Yunex Echezabal1 1Doral Academy Charter High School, Miami, FL, USA DOI: https://doi.org/10.47611/jsrhs.v10i2.1430 ABSTRACT The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time and since the premiere of Iron Man in 2008, it has risen to fame as a source of science-fiction entertainment. Sexism in the film industry often goes brushed aside but the widespread success of Marvel Studios calls attention to their treatment of gender roles. This paper explores the progression of six female superheroes in the MCU and what effect feminist movements have had on their roles as well as upcoming productions in the franchise. This paper used an interdisciplinary, mixed- methods design that studied movie scripts and screen time graphs. 14 MCU movies were analyzed through a feminist film theory lens and whenever a female character of interest was chosen, notes were taken on aspects including, but not limited to, dialogue, costume design, and character relationships. My findings showed that females in the MCU are heavily sexualized by directors, costume designers, and even their male co-stars. As powerful as some of these women were found to be, it was concluded that Marvel lacks in female inclusivity. Marvel’s upcoming productions, many of which are female-focused, still marginalize the roles of their superheroines which is a concern for the future of the film industry. Marvel is just one franchise but this study shows how their treatment of female characters uphold patriarchal structures and perpetuate harmful stereotypes that need to be corrected in the film industry as a whole.

  • Vigilantes, Incorporated: an Ideological Economy of the Superhero Blockbuster
VIGILANTES, INCORPORATED: AN IDEOLOGICAL ECONOMY OF THE SUPERHERO BLOCKBUSTER BY EZRA CLAVERIE DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English with a minor in Cinema Studies in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2016 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Associate Professor José B. Capino, Chair Associate Professor Jim Hansen Associate Professor Lilya Kaganovsky Associate Professor Robert A. Rushing Professor Frank Grady,Department of English, University of Missouri, Saint Louis ii ABSTRACT Since 2000, the comic-book superhero blockbuster has become Hollywood’s most salient genre. “Heroes, Incorporated: A Political Economy of the Superhero Blockbuster” examines these seemingly reactionary fantasies of American power, analyzing their role in transmedia storytelling for a conglomerated and world-spanning entertainment industry. This dissertation argues that for all their apparent investment in the status quo and the hegemony of white men, superhero blockbusters actually reveal the disruptive and inhuman logic of capital, which drives both technological and cultural change. Although focused on the superhero film from 2000 to 2015, this project also considers the print and electronic media across which conglomerates extend their franchises. It thereby contributes to the materialist study of popular culture and transmedia adaptation, showing how 21st century Hollywood adapts old media for new platforms, technologies, and audiences. The first chapter traces the ideology of these films to their commercial roots, arguing that screen superheroes function as allegories of intellectual property. The hero’s “brand” identity signifies stability, even as the character’s corporate owners continually revise him (rarely her).

  • Superheroes & Stereotypes: a Critical Analysis of Race, Gender, And
SUPERHEROES & STEREOTYPES: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF RACE, GENDER, AND SOCIAL ISSUES WITHIN COMIC BOOK MATERIAL Gabriel Arnoldo Cruz A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY December 2018 Committee: Alberto González, Advisor Eric Worch Graduate Faculty Representative Joshua Atkinson Frederick Busselle Christina Knopf © 2018 Gabriel Arnoldo Cruz All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Alberto González, Advisor The popularity of modern comic books has fluctuated since their creation and mass production in the early 20th century, experiencing periods of growth as well as decline. While commercial success is not always consistent from one decade to the next it is clear that the medium has been and will continue to be a cultural staple in the society of the United States. I have selected this type of popular culture for analysis precisely because of the longevity of the medium and the recent commercial success of film and television adaptations of comic book material. In this project I apply a Critical lens to selected comic book materials and apply Critical theories related to race, class, and gender in order to understand how the materials function as vehicles for ideological messages. For the project I selected five Marvel comic book characters and examined materials featuring those characters in the form of comic books, film, and television adaptations. The selected characters are Steve Rogers/Captain America, Luke Cage, Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Jean Grey, and Raven Darkholme/Mystique. Methodologically I interrogated the selected texts through the application of visual and narrative rhetorical criticism.
