DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED BY CONSULTANTS
Canopy Assessments Conduct urban tree canopy assessments using aerial imagery to provide data and analyses for planning proposals and tree planting prioritization. Consulting Community Forester Administer community forestry programs for municipalities on a contract basis. Equipment Training Provide training for staff on the use of chainsaws, stump-grinders, aerial lifts, chippers, etc. Expert Witness Investigate litigious or casualty situations and serve as an expert witness on behalf of a client in a courtroom setting for arboricultural and urban forestry issues. Funding Opportunities Assist communities in developing and applying for sustainable funding opportunities, from developing a project to completing appropriate applications for financial assistance. Inventories Determine the tree inventory most appropriate for the entity, develop guidelines for inventorying, perform actual inventory and be familiar with the use and/or development of inventory and GIS software. Ordinance / Specification Development Develop urban tree ordinances tailored to individual communities or develop tree care specifications, protocols for work on public property, regulations, etc. Plant Health Care Plans / Integrated Pest Management / Insect and Disease Preparedness Planning Develop programs and plans to survey plant health and recommend/provide research and phenologically based prevention and control strategies. Planting Design and Selection Provide landscape design services and appropriate site-specific species selections. Strategic / Management Plans Develop Urban Forestry strategic plans and management plans. Training / Education Provide staff, volunteer and citizen training and education on proper arboricultural and community forestry management topics. Tree Protection on Development Sites Assist communities, landowners and developers to design and implement systems / plans to protect trees from the impacts of construction. Those indicating this service should have knowledge of development procedures, tree physiology, and tree protection techniques. Tree Valuation Review trees for dollar value or risk tree analysis. Urban Wood Utilization Planning Assess community wood resource (quantity and quality), identify viable markets / opportunities for disposal / higher end uses and develop a plan for tree removal and utilization. Website Creation / Enhancement Design, develop and / or maintain website content to connect citizens to urban forestry information and programs provided by the entity.
