All Times Central With all that is on the line this weekend, it only seems fitting that the Beavers host the nationally-ranked Fighting Sioux, preseason WCHA favorites, for their season-opening series. A closer look shows the teams have far more in subject to change without notice common than school colors. Each team has assembled a tradition-rich history brimming with championships and now, while R.H. “Bob” Peters, the cornerstone of Bemidji State’s dynasty, is a graduate of UND and served as its head coach schedule Key in 1965 before taking the reigns of the BSU program. Moreover, with just over 100 miles separating the cities of Grand • WCHA regular-season game Forks, N.D. and Bemidji, Minn. the rivalry is natural. 1 Dodge Holiday Classic; Minneapolis, Minn. BSU has experienced a tremendous amount of success in its first outing of the season posting a 41-12-2 (x) opponent national ranking (USA Today poll) in season-openers since 1947. x/ opponent tournament seed North Dakota comes into the weekend after posting a 1-0-1 record on a season-opening trip to Alaska as a part of the Kendall Hockey Classic. The Sioux battled Alaska Anchorage to a 5-5 tie before defeating Alaska 3-1. television Key © Lakeland Public Television (state-wide) ® Charter Communications (local markets) F Fox Sports North THe rivalry R Fox Sports Rocky Mountain (local market) The 2010-11 season-opening series between the Beavers and Fighting Sioux marks a continuation of a series that has roots extending back to the early 1970s after a one-year hiatus. Since the first meeting between the teams Feb. 6, 1970, C CBS College Sports UND has built a 17-1-1 advantage, including a perfect 5-0-0 mark when facing BSU in Bemidji, Minn. Earning their only win E ESPN versus UND Feb. 7, 1970 (7-5), the Beavers enter the weekend in search of their first victory over the Sioux since Bemidji State made the jump to the major college hockey level prior to the 1999-2000 season--a stretch during which BSU is 0-14- 1 versus North Dakota. Despite UND’s dominance in the series, eight of the last 11 contests have resulted in a Sioux margin of victory of a goal, which includes UND’s last three trips to Bemidji. THe uNparalleled TradiTioN The 2010-11 season represents the 12th at the NCAA Division I level, and the 55th year of intercollegiate competition, for a BSU program which has assembled one of the finest traditions in all of American collegiate sport. u BSU owns 13 NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III national titles. u The Beavers have captured 21 conference titles in 54 seasons of intercollegiate competition. u In 2009, BSU became the first No. 16 seed to ever earn a spot in the Frozen Four.
