By VALERIE REDDELL SPECIAL TO THE SEALY NEWS

n mere days, the Class of 2021 will be launched into early I adulthood after more than a year of pandemic life that offered very few of the traditional rites of passage that they looked forward to for most of their 13-year educational career. This graduating class – and their predecessors in 2020 – deserve commendations for navigating the unique challenges the pandemic brought to their junior and senior years in high school. This accomplishment is no small feat since the adults in the room who would have been shouting directions at you for the last 14 months couldn’t turn to the answers at the back of the book for this test. So, soon-to-be graduates, whether your next move is directly into the workforce, the military, college, university or technical school, we are all pleased to join you in celebrating this moment. Over the next few weeks, The Sealy News will look COURTESY PHOTOS at what happens next for members of the Class of 2021 Jackson Osborne and Cody Prause represented Sealy One Act Play with individual along each of these possible future paths. awards throughout the run to its eighth state appearance in late April. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the voters, and my family for not only the overwhelming support in this year's Sealy ISD School Board election, but also for the support, and trust you have given me the past 9 years on the board. I would like to congratulate John Sodolak on being elected to board, I look forward to working with John and my fellow board members to make Sealy ISD better. I would also like to thank the other candidates Bradley Miller, Ralph Bond, Claribel Barrera, and Monique Clinton for running for the school board. It is not an easy decision to put your name out there to run for a public offi ce, so I commend them for their effort. I would also like to extend a welcoming hand to them and all the citizens of the Sealy school district if you're not already, to become more involved in our school district. You don't have to be a board member to make an impact on a student or teacher in our amazing district. I ask that you consider volunteering as a mentor, watchdog, committee member or with the PTA. There are also booster clubs for theater, band, FFA and athletics that you can join to support those activities and students that participate in them. We are very fortunate at Sealy ISD that we have some very talented students not just in athletics, but FFA, culinary arts, art, band, theater and choir. I would like to challenge you to support these talented students by fi lling the stadiums and cheering for them at athletic events and supporting them in FFA at the Austin County fair with their animal projects. Our Sealy Tiger band has done extremely well at marching contest, concert contest this year at the jr. high level and high school. Attend one of their concerts and see the talent for yourself. Choir also made straight ones at their contest this year, please support them at their Christmas and Spring concerts. The Sealy Tiger Stage company our theater students routinely qualify for state in One Act Play. These talented students put on performances of two plays in the fall, October, and December. The Spring semester in May they perform their UIL One Act Play please come out and fi ll the auditorium for their shows. Their next performance is on May, 16th. Our students are excelling inside the classroom as well despite all the diffi culties they and all the district employees have had to overcome in the past year. So as we as a community start to get back to normal from the pandemic I ask you to please think about getting out and supporting our students I PROMISE YOU WILL BE HAPPY YOU DID. Thank you for your support, I look forward to serving on the board these next three years. Thanks for supporting Sealy ISD, Joe Mike Young
