Day 2: Thursday, October 24 — Warsaw Upon arrival in Warsaw at Chopin Airport, meet your tour guide and transfer to your hotel in the heart of Warsaw. This afternoon visit the Church of St. Stanislaw Kostka, and the tomb of Blessed Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko, chaplain and martyr of the Solidarity movement. Celebrate Mass before visiting the museum of Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko. Continue on to see the reconstructed Old Town featuring colorful houses, art galleries and quaint restaurants (pending time of arrival). Welcome Dinner at your hotel and overnight in Warsaw. Day 3: Friday, October 25 — Warsaw | Niepokolanow | Warsaw After breakfast this morning, depart to visit Niepokolanow – the Immaculate city built by Fr. Maximillian Kolbe. Celebrate Mass, followed by lunch (on your own) at the Shrine and hear about the life and witness of St. Maximillian. Return to Warsaw and visit the Jewish Quarter, the Warsaw Uprising Monument and Museum. Take a city sightseeing tour to see the most important sights of Poland’s Capital, which was raised from the ashes of World War II. Tour St. John’s Cathedral where Servant of God Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski is buried, and see the Royal Castle Square, which features the magnificent royal residence and Sigmund Column. Dinner on your own and overnight in Warsaw. Day 4: Saturday, October 26— Warsaw | Czestochowa | Zakopane After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart for Czestochowa, the center of Poland’s religious life and home of the famous icon of the Black Madonna. Enjoy a guided tour of the monastery by one of the Pauline brothers. Also attend the unveiling of the Icon of the Black Madonna, followed by lunch on your own. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine. Continue to Zakopane, Poland’s winter capital nestled in the Tatra’s mountains along the border of Slovakia and the Czech Republic. This is a very close place to the heart of St. John Paul II, as the mountains were literally the backyard of his house. As a child he would have hiked and skied along its trails and as a priest and Bishop he would have initiated youth activities along the same areas. Check into your hotel for a group dinner and overnight in Zakopane. Day 5: Sunday, October 27 — Zakopane After breakfast, enjoy a panoramic tour of the city followed by Mass at the Fatima Church, built by the mountaineers in gratitude for the Blessed Mother saving the life of St. John Paul II from the assassination attempt. Take the gondolas to Mt. Glubowka for a bird’s-eye view over the city of Zakopane. Visit the Villa Atma, a great example of Mountaineer’s style architecture. Lunch on your own, followed by an afternoon at your leisure to shop or relax. Enjoy dinner at a typical Mountaineers restaurant with traditional music. Overnight in Zakopane. Day 6: Monday, October 28 – Zakopane | Wadowice | Krakow After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart for Wadowice. Visit the town, including St. John Paul’s home, and celebrate Mass at the local church, followed by lunch near the city at Dworek Mikolaj. Continue to Krakow. Continue on to Krakow, and upon arrival tour through the Jewish Quarter of Karzmierz. Check into your hotel; dinner on your own and overnight in Krakow. Day 7: Tuesday, October 29 — Auschwitz | Krakow After breakfast, depart for Auschwitz. Tour what’s left of the camp, see the cell of St. Maximilian, and have time on your own. Celebrate Mass at St. Maximilian Kolbe Shrine at Harmeze – Auschwitz. Lunch on your own and return to Krakow. Enjoy free time this afternoon, dinner on your own and overnight in Krakow. Day 8: Wednesday, October 30 — Krakow | Kalawaria After breakfast, take a guided tour of Krakow. Start at Wawel Hill and visit Wawel Cathedral, where St. John Paul II was ordained as priest and celebrated his first mass. Tour around the castle, where the tombs of St. Stanislaw and St. Hedwig are, as well as the final resting place of Polish kings, poets and national heroes. Walk along the elegant Kanonicza street, lined with buildings dating back from Renaissance to Gothic periods. Stop at the Deanery building where St. John Paul II resided while living in Krakow, then visit the courtyards of Collegium Maius University, where once Copernicus and St. John Paul II walked as students. Attend the opening of the Witt Stwosz Altar at the Mariacki (St. Mary’s) Church. Enjoy a chocolate tasting from traditional chocolatier. Celebrate Mass at a local Church. Lunch on your own. Visit to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Europe’s largest Calvary sanctuary, just outside of Krakow. Return to Krakow for dinner on own. Overnight at the hotel in Krakow Day 9: Thursday, October 31 — Krakow | Divine Mercy Center “Lagweiniki” Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the tomb of St. Faustina Kowalska while praying the Divine Mercy Novena. Tour the convent and the Basilica of the Divine Mercy, which was consecrated by St. John Paul. Celebrate Mass at the Divine Mercy Shrine, followed by group lunch. Continue on to visit the Shrine of St. John Paul the II, with free time for prayer and reflection. Return to the hotel to freshen up and relax before dinner. Farewell Dinner at local restaurant with traditional music. Overnight in Krakow Day 10: Friday, November 1 – Return to the USA This morning check out and depart for the John Paul II Airport in Krakow for return flights home. \[ = Continental Breakfast | = Lunch | = Dinner * Itinerary subject to change .
