Independent Skill-building: students can independently seek support to assess and reinforce their skills through the USU Ready website resources. Integrated Support: student enrolled in several general education courses have access to academic strategies built into them, this includes Supplemental Instruction. Success Courses: when more structured help is needed, students are encouraged to enroll in one of the following courses: USU 1020 – Habits of Mind: Planning for College Success (1 credit) This course focuses on the theory and practice of effective planning, including time management, organizational skills, adult mindset, and motivation. USU 1030 – Habits of Mind: Resilience (1 credit) This course focuses on the basic understanding, development, and practice of resilience skills in order to enhance performance in academic, workplace, and other demanding contexts. USU 1040 – Habits of Mind: Learning for College Success (1 credit) This course focuses on developing academic skills, beliefs, and behaviors for implementation in and out of class. USU 1050 – Habits of Mind: First Scholars Seminar (1 credit) This course is designed for first-generation college students with the primary focus placed on fostering a sense of belonging, providing equity in university access, and facilitating community- building USU 1060 Habits of Mind: Reading for College Success (1 credit) This course focuses on practical application of strategies and the development of critical thinking skills needed to comprehend and distill meaning from college-level texts. USU 1070 Habits of Mind: Success in STEM (1 credit) This course focuses on assisting students in achieving success in STEM environments, particularly mathematics, statistics, biology, and chemistry. The course focus is to enhance students' ability to recognize and avoid common difficulties in STEM-related areas. USU 1730 Strategies for Academic Success (3 credits) Students requiring more comprehensive support enroll in this course which helps students develop critical thinking, study, and learning strategies necessary for college success. Tutoring: group and individual tutoring are provided through a variety of services and modalities. A list of tutoring options is found at Tutoring - Student Retention & Completion. Academic Success Coaching: when faculty have unresolved concerns about a student’s academic achievement, they should complete the Student Academic Achievement Alert. The Office of Student Retention & Completion will assign a Success Coach to assist the student in connecting with appropriate

Effective March 1, Sally Tauber, director of development at Utah State University’s Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter in Park City, will join the university’s Salt Lake City central advancement office to focus on corporate and foundational giving. “Sally has made many wonderful contributions to the Swaner EcoCenter during an exciting time of growth for the organization,” said Nell Larson, the center’s executive director. “We’re going to miss Sally at the EcoCenter, but know that she’ll continue to do great things for the university in her new role.” Tauber joined the Swaner staff in 2008, the same year that the organization opened the LEED Platinum-certified EcoCenter. Swaner gifted itself to USU in 2010 and Tauber has been involved in a variety of development efforts there, all in support of the center’s programs and mission.
