Percival Spearman Wilkinson, Esq., is lord of the manor, and the other chief landowners are Christopher Nevile, Esq., Captain William Knight, Mr. Joseph Ranby, and Messrs. John and Francis Gothorp. The Church (St. Peter and St. Paul) is a plain stone building, with nave, chancel and bell turret. The benefice is a rectory, valued in K.B. at £9. 10s. lOd., and is in the patronage of the Lord Chancellor, and incumbency of the Rev. Henry Albert Browne, M.A., who is also rector of Newton. It is now worth about £300 a year, having 45 acres of glebe, and a rent-charge in lieu of tithes, established in 1840. The Rectory House was rebuilt in 1838, in the Elizabethan style. USSELBY. • USSELBY parish, 3 miles N. by W. of Market Rasen, and 5~ S.W. from Caistor, has only 68 inha bitants, and about 1110 acres of land, nearly all the property of Rear-Admiral Tennyson d'Eyncourt, the lord of the manor, impropriator and patron of the living. The Church (St. Margaret) is a small edifice built of stone, and consists of nave and chancel, having about 50 sittings. The benefice is a. vicarage, valued at £89 per annum, in the incumbency of the Rev. Henry Nelson, B.A., who resides at Market Rasen. The manor was the property and seat of the Elliots, and afterwards of the Alcocks. Here is a railway station, on the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire line, between Barnetby and Lincoln. WALESBY. 'VALESBY, 3 miles N.E. of Market Rasen, and 7t S. of Caistor, is a village and parish in a. picturesque part of the Wolds, containing 325 souls, and 2580 acres of land, including the hamlets of Otby and Risby. The latter contains 717 acres, belonging to Clare Hall, Cambridge; and nearly all the rest of the -parish belongs to William Angerstcin, Esq., the lord of the manor and patron of the benefice. The Church (All Saints), which is an ancient Gothic fabric, standing on a commanding eminence, con sisting of nave, aisles, chancel, and tower with three bells, and containing several handsome monuments of the Hackett and other families, was repaired and new roofed in 1829. The rectory, valued in K.B. at £23. 8s. ld., and now at £800, is in the incumbency of the Rev. Julius Henry Rowley, M.A., who has a good residence, built in 1870 at a cost of £700, and 77 A. 2R. 22P. of glebe. The tithes were commuted in 1847 for yearly tithe rents of £570 from Walesby, and £130 from Risby, Dr. Daniel Waterland, who vindicated the doctrine of the Trinity against Dr. Clark, was born ·here in 1683. The school, built in 1868, at an expense of £760, defrayed by the present rector, is partly supported by subscription. The Wesleyans have a small chapel in the parish.
