His latest rule-breaking involves the use of electronics, but as usual, he has come up with his own way of doing it. by Rick Mattingly 24 GILSON LAVIS Back when Squeeze was enjoying their initial success, drummer Gilson Lavis was becoming increasingly dependent on alcohol. After the band broke up, he conquered his problem, and now, with the re-formed Squeeze enjoying success once again, Lavis is able to put new energy into his gig. by Simon Goodwin 28 BUDDY Photo by Ebet Roberts MILES He made his mark with the Electric Flag, Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsies, and his own Buddy Miles Express. Now, active once again with Santana and the California Raisins, Buddy Miles reflects on the legendary music that he was so much a part of. by Robert Santelli 32 DAVE TOUGH He didn't have the flash of a Buddy Rich or a Gene Krupa, but Dave Tough made such bands as Benny Goodman's, Artie Shaw's, and Woody Herman's play their best through his driving timekeeping and sense of color. As a performer and musician, his resume is so complete that there is a tendency to sit back and marvel at it: virtuoso player, sonic innovator, hit songwriter, wild stage performer, outrageous dresser, sex symbol, and even sensitive guy. But there is also a tendency, possibly because of his overwhelming image, to fail to dig deeper into the music, as Rob Van der Bliek has pointed out.1 In this study, we will look at Hendrix’s music, his performance practice, and its relationship to the mythology that has grown up around him.

Synopsis: Born in 1947, in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico, Carlos Santana moved to San Francisco in the early 1960s, where he formed the Santana Blues Band in 1966. The band, later simply known as Santana, signed a contract with Columbia Records, with Carlos becoming the consistent front man. Throughout the 1970s and early '80s, Santana released a string of successful albums such as "Abraxas," "Lotus" and "Amigos," making a big comeback in 1999 with the Grammy Award-winning "Supernatural." In 2009, he received a Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award and several years later became a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. More recent albums have included "Corazón" and "Santana IV." Background And Early Life Musician Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico. His father, Jose, was an accomplished professional violinist, and as a child Carlos learned to play the instrument from his father, though he ultimately didn't enjoy the tones he created. He would eventually take up the electric guitar, for which he developed an ardent passion. This article is available at 5 reading levels at https://newsela.com. 1 In 1955, the family moved from Autlán de Navarro to Tijuana, the border city between Mexico and California.

  • Buddy Miles Changes
Buddy Miles Changes Two incredible concerts by Buddy Miles and company from 1995 and 1996. This DVD features two incredible concerts by Buddy Miles and company. In the first, filmed at Switzerland's New Morning Rock Heroes Festival in 1995, he re-works in his own distinctive style a selection of rock and pop classics from the Sixties and Seventies, concluding with barnstorming version of three of Jimi Hendrix's biggest hits, 'Purple Haze', 'Voodoo Child' and 'Hey Joe'. In the second, filmed in Paris a year later, he features Albert King's blues standard 'Born Under A Bad Sign' and a deeply soulful interpretation of The Impression's ballad hit 'For Your Precious Love'. Buddy is perhaps best known, for his association with Jimi Hendrix, playing on his 'Electric Ladyland' album and as a key member of his post Experience group The Band of Gypsys, one of the first all-black rock bands. This DVD is an excellent representation of his overwhelming skill and tremendous talent. • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
