Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 2021 Game Notes Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 2021 game notes Wednesday, June 30th, 2021 6:50 PM Contact: Mike Lindskog Chukchansi Park Game #49, Road Game #25 [email protected] Fresno, CA Rancho Cucamonga QuakeS (25-23) AT Fresno Grizzlies (30-19) RHP Kendall Williams (1-0, 4.50 ERA) vs. RHP Andrew DiPiazza (1-0, 2.25 ERA) TODAY’S GAME: The Quakes continue their longest road trip of the year today, with game eight of a 12-game, 14-day swing up STANDINGS north, as they take on the Fresno Grizzlies in the second game of a six-game set. Rancho is hunting for a third straight road win, as they’re currently 2-5 through the first seven games of the road, trip, after going just 1-5 in San Jose. NORTH W L PCT GB LAST GAME: Alex De Jesus blasted a three-run homer in the first inning and the Quakes never trailed on Tuesday night, as they San Jose 34 15 .694 - took the opener of the six-game series over the Fresno Grizzlies, by a final of 5-1 Chukchansi Park. The 3-0 lead was plenty for the Fresno 30 19 .612 4 pitching staff on Tuesday, as Jimmy Lewis enjoyed his best start of the year, scattering four hits over 2.2 innings of scoreless work. Modesto 27 22 .551 7 Stockton 20 29 .408 14 Hyun-Il Choi (4-3) came out of the pen and allowed just one run over 5.1 innings to net the win. Fresno starter Sam Weatherly (2-4) had a tough start to his night in the loss, as he gave up four runs over the first two frames, but worked into the sixth inning without SOUTH W L PCT GB allowing any additional damage. It was a clean win for the Quakes from top to bottom, as they struck out eight and walked just one Rancho Cucamonga 25 23 .521 - batter, while playing clean defense behind the pitching staff. Ismael Alcantara was the only Quake to record a multi-hit game. Inland Empire 23 25 .479 2 ROSTER MOVES: The Quakes made one move today, along with their five moves on Tuesday. OF Jake Vogel has been activated Lake Elsinore 23 26 .469 2.5 from the Injured List. Vogel has been out since May 28th, when he injured his ankle in a win over Stockton at LoanMart Field. Third Visalia 13 36 .265 12.5 baseman Brandon Lewis, who is among the league leaders in a number of offensive categories, was promoted to Great Lakes of the High-A Central League on Tuesday. Lewis was batting .278 with a team-leading 10 homers (tied for the league lead) and 35 RBIs TODAY (sixth in the league and second on the club, behind Jorbit Vivas’ 36). Lewis was also second in the league in extra-base hits (25) and Modesto at Visalia, 6:00 PM tied for first in runs scored (36). The Quakes also lost dependable reliever Franklin De La Paz, who was 2-0 in 13 appearances, but had Inland Empire at Lake Elsinore, 6:35 PM Rancho Cucamonga a 2.45 ERA and 25 punch-outs over 18.1 innings. The Quakes also put reliever Michael Martinez on the Injured List. Joining Rancho at Fresno, 6:50 PM are relievers Elio Serrano and Joan Valdez, who come to the club from Extended Spring Training in Arizona. San Jose at Stockton, 7:05 PM AL-CANTARA, ALL THE TIME: The Quakes have received a massive boost thanks to the presence of OF Ismael Alcantara, who’s hitting .394 (13-for-33) in ten games since joining the team. Alcantara has also smacked a pair of homers and driven in ten in those TOMORROW ten games. If he had enough at-bats to qualify, Alcantara would be #3 in the entire league. Modesto at Visalia, 6:00 PM GOODBYE LANCASTER, HELLO FRESNO: This six-game set marks the first time that the Quakes and Fresno Grizzlies are Inland Empire at Lake Elsinore, 6:35 PM meeting in history, as this is the one and only series between the two teams in 2021. With Major League Baseball’s initiative to reduce Rancho Cucamonga at Fresno, 6:50 PM the minor leagues to 120 teams before the start of the 2021 season, the Lancaster JetHawks were eliminated from the then-California San Jose at Stockton, 7:05 PM League. Taking their spot in the newly-renamed Low-A West League are the Fresno Grizzlies, who join the league from the former Triple-A Pacific Coast League, where they were members since 1998. The home of the Grizzlies is Chukchansi Park, which seats a LOW-A WEST SCOREBOARD more Triple-A appropriate crowd of 10,000-plus fans. The Lancaster JetHawks were affiliated with the Colorado Rockies for the final YESTERDAY four years in the Cal League. This made Colorado the only affiliate left in Low-A West and they ended up being the only choice for Rancho Cucamonga Fresno. The Grizzlies were a Giants’ affiliate from 1998-2014 and then won their only PCL title as a Houston Astros’ affiliate in 2015. 5 Fresno 1 They spent their final two years in the PCL as a Washington Nationals’ affiliate, prior to dropping three levels in 2021. Inland Empire 5 Lake Elsinore 4 PLAYOFFS?: At the beginning of the 2021 season, it was understood that there would be no playoffs across the country for all Modesto 17 Visalia 5 of Minor League Baseball, due to the ongoing global pandemic. Recent reports from Baseball America have suggested that Major San Jose 9 Stockton 2 League Baseball is close to implementing a “revised” playoff plan, allowing each league to crown a champion with a playoff series. While nothing has been finalized, rumors exist that the playoffs for 2021 would be shortened to a single series, that features the top two teams (by record), regardless of division. If that is the case, the Quakes currently sit fourth in the league, despite them owning the best record in the South Division. The top three teams in all of Low-A West currently reside up North, where San Jose has a four- game lead over Fresno and a seven-game lead over Modesto. The Quakes are currently 4.5 games back of Fresno in that setting. KENDALL WILLIAMS: The Quakes will send Kendall Williams to the mound in his tenth appearance and ninth start of the year, 2021 QUAKES AT A GLANCE his first against Fresno. In his last outing, Williams allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits over 4.1 innings in a no-decision on 1st Half Record: 25-23 6/24.
