These are: the terminal mouth cleft bisecting the anterior profile at its midpoint, the elongated head with tapered snout, flat skull, long lower jaw, and eyes placed high on the head (Cavender 1980:300-302; compare with Cavender’s Figure 3). The head structure of bull trout is well suited to an ambush-type predatory style, in which the charr rests on the bottom and watches for prey to pass over. ABSTRACT I conducted an extensive survey of published and unpublished documents to identify the native fish stocks of Jasper National Park, describe their original condition, determine if there is anything unusual or especially significant about them, assess their present condition, outline what is known of their biology and life history, and outline what measures should be taken to manage and protect them. -

Canadian Society of Soil Science Annual Meeting, Banff, Alberta May 2014. 18 p. 2 3 Banff Park In the fall of 1883, three Canadian Pacific Railway construction workers stumbled across a cave containing hot springs on the eastern slopes of Alberta's Rocky Mountains. From that humble beginning was born Banff National Park, Canada's first national park and the world's third. Spanning 6,641 square kilometres (2,564 square miles) of valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and rivers, Banff National Park is one of the world's premier destination spots. In Banff’s early years, The Canadian Pacific Railway built the Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise, and attracted tourists through extensive advertising. In the early 20th century, roads were built in Banff, at times by war internees, and through Great Depression-era public works projects. Since the 1960s, park accommodations have been open all year, with annual tourism visits to Banff increasing to over 5 million in the 1990s. Millions more pass through the park on the Trans-Canada Highway. As Banff is one of the world's most visited national parks, the health of its ecosystem has been threatened. -

Central Alberta Mountain Club Chronicle May 2012 Presidential Musings Fellow Hikers: I am happy to report that our club membership has climbed well over the 100 mark again! Welcome to the "Newbies" and welcome back to the "Grizzled Veterans". Even though there have not been many trips out yet, hopefully you have been outdoors enjoying the summer-like weather ,stretching those unused winter bound muscles and generally getting back into the swing of summer. The month of June is the month we now get serious about hiking, unfortunately due to back issues I may not see anyone on the trails for a while. (I never did the stretches Ha Ha) . I will definitely be thinking of hiking to the top while I recover. Remember to let the trip leader know if you can't make a trip you have signed up for as there is always a waiting list of fresh eager folks wanting to go in your place. We had about 20-25 people? This is a nice, easy hike. It is fairly level with a well-kept gravel/dirt trail. This trail covers a few different types of terrain. -

This Comprising about 25,000 square kilometres, the Bow River basin The Bow River is approximately 645 kilometres in length. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, coal development in this area resulted in the creation of three small communities known as Michel, Natal and Sparwood, respectively. The former two communities were in the immediate area of the coal mines and the latter, Sparwood, was a few miles removed.. By 1966, the Village of Natal and the settlement of Michel had become adversely affected by coal dust. There was no regulatory legislation to protect the public. The Village of Natal, in cooperation with the Provincial and Federal Governments, entered into an Urban Renewal and Land Assembly program, which eventually resulted in the townspeople of Natal and Michel moving to, and expanding, Sparwood. -

([email protected]) 2Canadian Stratigraphic Services 2000 Ltd, Calgary, AB, Canada. Abstract Progradation in a carbonate ramp is not always well expressed in seismic or in geological cross sections. Clinoforms in the Carboniferous Banff Formation (Alberta, Canada) have been studied in an integrated approach using log analysis, sedimentology and seismic data. The genesis and geometry of several clinoforms have been examined against their structural settings. Cutting descriptions from Canstrat have been used to better understand the sedimentology and lithologies above and below the clinoforming surfaces. In the Western Alberta Basin, the Carboniferous Banff Formation is a prograding carbonate ramp with some very well developed clinoforms. Three main types of clinoforming surfaces have been recognized on wireline logs in association with transgressive shales, slump related chert units or catastrophic grain supported carbonate events. The seismic expression associated with the carbonate ramp has been tested against lateral facies variations. Synthetic seismograms have been generated on many wells from a variety of clinoforms in order to determine if and when a progradation would be seen on seismic. A comparison between two geographically distinct clinoforms with apparently identical log expressions has outlined extreme differences in their potential to be seismically visible. The structural context favorable to recognizable clinoforming pattern is variable and the direction of progradation may vary dramatically especially when alternate fault activity is syndepositional. -
