It is, therefore, necessary to have an updated list of NGOs who are performing well in the implementation of this Ministry’s schemes. I am very much glad to see that the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry has undertaken the painstaking process of collection, compilation andlist will collation be further of information improvised for on preparing the basis this of information list. This directory and suggestions is the first receivedattempt offrom this various kind by stakeholders. the Ministry and It is it also is hoped expected that thatthis other line Ministries and State Governments will also be benefitted from this list. Ratna Anjan Jena STATISTICAL ADVISER Ministry of Women and Child Development Preface The Government of India implements many of its schemes with the active participation and support of the NGOs as they play an important role in accelerating the pace of implementation at the ground level. Many voluntary organizations have been working in the areas of women welfare and child development. An updated list of the performing NGOs in this area becomes a handy source of information to the government for engaging the NGOs, as and whenever required. The Statistics Bureau of this Ministry has come out with the list of performing and non-performing NGOs working in the area of women and child development. It is hoped that this directory will be useful to the governments and other stakeholders; further improvements could be made from time to time based on inputs and suggestions received in this regard. Ratna Anjan Jena) Statistical Advisor, MWCD v THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT: VISION & MISSION The Ministry of Women and Child Development is the apex body of Government of India for formulation and administration of regulations and laws related to women and child development. It came into existence as a separate Ministry with effect from 30th January, 2006; earlier, it was the Department of Women and Child Development set up in the year 1985 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The nodal responsibility of the Ministry is to advance the rights and concerns of women and children who together constitute 67.7% of the country's population, as per 2011 Census. The Ministry was constituted with the prime intention of addressing gaps in State action for women and children and for promoting inter-ministerial and inter-sectoral convergence to create gender equitable and child centered legislation, policies and programmes. The function of the Ministry is to promote the empowerment and protection of women and children and ensure their equitable and wholesome development. VISION Empowered women living with dignity and contributing as equal partners in development in an environment free from violence and discrimination, and, well-nurtured children with full opportunities for growth and development in a safe and protective environment. MISSION - WOMEN Promoting social and economic empowerment of women through cross-cutting policies and programmes, mainstreaming gender con- cerns, creating awareness about their rights and facilitating institutional and legislative support for enabling them to realize their hu- man rights and develop to their full potential. MISSION - CHILDREN Ensuring development, care and protection of children through cross-cutting policies and programmes, spreading awareness about their rights and facilitating access to learning, nutrition, institutional and legislative support for enabling them to grow and develop to their full potential. vii CONCEPT NOTE The list of performing and non-performing NGOs has been prepared with the help of data given by different Bureaus of the Ministry. Data on NGOs also have been collected from various states of the country. Apart from that, data on the performance of NGOs have also been collected from the websites of the autonomous organizations like Rashtriya Mahila Kosh and Central Social Welfare Board and National Commission for Women. The list of performing and non-performing NGOs has been prepared based on certain criteria/parameter. For identifying performing NGOs, the following criteria were set: i. Years in existence and association with this Ministry and its autonomous bodies. ii. Presently implementing or implemented any scheme of the Ministry of WCD or other Ministry. iii. Support available to the NGOs under Grant-in-Aid of the Research Scheme and other schemes such as Swadhar Greh, Ujjawala, STEP, Working Women’s Hostel, etc. of the Ministry. iv. Awards and Recognition obtained by the organization or its founding members. v. Having registration with NGO Darpan, FCRA registration, etc. vi. Participation of the NGO in the Conference of NGO Partners organized by the Ministry of WCD on 9th October, 2017. Identification of non performing NGOs was done based on the criteria as under: i. Currently Blacklisted, in the process of being blacklisted or had been blacklisted earlier by any Ministry, Autonomous body or agency. ii. Further funds being stopped to the organization by Ministries and other autonomous bodies based upon poor perfor- mance. iii. Defaulter iv. Not registered with NGO Darpan Portal. It is hoped that this list prepared state-wise will be helpful in assisting Ministries to decide upon provision of funds or assignment of any task to the NGOs. These children make up more than 55 per cent of the population. Based on state police records in 2005, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) stated that, on average, more than 44,000 children are reported missing in India each year. Around 11,000 of these children remain untraced.1 This number could actually be much higher, as many cases are never reported because the families of these children are from a marginalised background and do not have the ability to report the incident. It is estimated that there are 11 million street children living in India, most of whom live in and around railway stations. In Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, approximately 100,000–125,000 street children figure in the lists of missing, runaway, abandoned or trafficked children.2 Without support, these children are at risk of various forms of abuse and a lack of rights that not only denies them a childhood, but also forces them to grow up fast. Approximately 70,000 children arrive on station platforms in India per year.

PRABHA Associate Professor, Dept. of History, Govt. First Grade College Bidar, Karnataka. Abstract: Bidar is a home place of sharanas and saints. Here Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jains live with peacefully. The influence of veersaiva religion is very much in this district. Veerbhadra is one of the founders of Indian culture and tradition.(1) There are references of him in Indus valley and Vedic culture.(2) The fairs of Veerbhdreswara are celebrated in many villages, towns and cities in Bidar district. In ancient times Bidar was called 'Bidarur', 'Vidhuranagar', and 'Vidharb' etc.(3) It is situated in the Deccan trap. It is surrounded by Andhra Pradesh in east, Maharashtra in the north and Gulbarga in the west. It consists of five talukas and six Legislative Constituent Assembly seats. The Manjra, Karanja, Mullamari are the major rivers. It is 2206 feet above the sea level. Its extent is 5458 sq km.(4) The famous dynasties ruled in this region are Nandas, Mauryas, Shatavanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Kakatiyas, Bhamanis, Baridshahis, and Nizams. Humnabad is a town in Bidar District of Karnataka. The town falls on the NH-9 and NH- 218 that connects Pune and Hyderabad and thus becomes a famous hot spot to stop and rejuvenate one's religious fervour. Humnabad is famous for Manik Prabhu temple, in Maniknagar locality and also for the Veerbhadreshewar Jatra in Humnabad and Changlare. KEY WORDS: Veerbhadreshwar Fairs, Temple, Bidar.

August, 3rd, 1985 is a land mark in the annals of the Legislature of Anohra Pradesh on which day the Prime Minister, Sri Rajiv Gandhi inaugu­ rated the Andhra Pradesh Legislacure Build­ ings. The newly constructed Assembly Build­ ing of Andhra Pradesh is located in a place adorned by thick vegitation pervading with peaceful atmosphere with all its scenic beauty. It acquires new dimensions of beauty, elegance and modernity with its gorgeous and splen­ did constructions, arches, designs, pillars of various dImensions, domes etc. Foundation stone for this new Legislature Building was laid by the then Chief Minister, Dr. M. Chenna Reddy on 19th March, 1980. The archilecture adopted for the exterior devation to the new building is the same as that of the old building, leaving no scope for differentiation between the two building~. The provision of detached round long columns under the arches add more beauty to the building. The building contains modern amenities such as air-connitioning, interior decoration and reinforced sound system. There is a provision for the use of modc:rn sophisticated electronic equipment for providing audio-system.
