A warm welcome to you all attendance charts on the day and we were disappointed the result on the pitch didn’t as we start our 2021/22 FA Cup match it. Whilst we controlled much of the campaign. game against a young, well organised Our visitors Southend Manor have already Basildon side, there were too many spells in experienced success in the competition this the game where our play didn’t have enough season and will no doubt be looking to continue purpose, and we didn’t show the confidence their journey here today. We plan to be ready from previous games to be brave in the final for the challenge they will bring, and I know third of the pitch. In the end, Basildon countered the boys will be keen to start a run of our own against us with real threat and after a late in a competition that can give sides some scare towards the end, we settled for a point memorable days out together. on the opening day. Whilst reflecting on the start to our league With two really positive training sessions campaign last Saturday, firstly it was incredible behind us this week we continue to prepare to see so many of you back at the Goldstar the squad for both today and our forthcoming on a Saturday afternoon! It was no league fixtures. It really has the makings for surprise to see us top the league an exciting season but we have to get the basics right as one thing is for certain, in both league and cup competitions, we have to work hard for everything that we want to achieve!

Enjoy a great afternoon all!

hen I was a lad back in December 1959, I left school on my birthday and signed on to HM Forces two days Wlater. I joined the Corps of Royal Engineers (CRE), reporting for duty at Old Park Barracks, Dover on 12th January 1960. I was a Junior Leader!!!! No further comment on that, and it was like being at College or University with one exception - one compulsory subject was Military History. Specifically, the history of the CRE, and it was there I learnt that the CRE had reached the final of the very first FA Challenge Cup in 1872, and in 1875 at their 3rd final they only went and won it, beating Tuesday 16th March 1875: Old Etonians 2-0 in a replay after drawing the Kennington Oval first encounter 1-1! Royal Engineers 2 Old Etonians 0 They appeared in one more final, in 1878, losing 3-1 to Wanderers and played in the competition until 1886, when the competition opened up and Qualifying rounds were introduced. Most of the early cup finals were played at the Kennington Oval, better known these days as The Oval (or sponsored name, the Kia Oval) and until was built in 1923 the Final had various homes. Exceptions to those early Oval finals were in 1873 when it was played at Lillie Bridge in Fulham and 1893 at Fallowfields in Manchester. “I felt we completely dominated the first half, played really well and moved the ball about quickly; we created chances and got a good goal.”

Seasiders Manager Stuart Boardley said after the game; “I have to be slightly disappointed as I think that’s two points dropped if I’m being honest with you. I felt we completely dominated the first half, played really well and moved the ball about quickly; we created chances and got a good goal. It was a sloppy penalty to give away, but overall I’m not too dissatisfied, there’s been a lot of build up to this game, effectively we’ve been close on a year building up to this one game and that can always create a dangerous platform for everyone, so I think to come away with a one all draw means we are off the mark and we remain unbeaten at home since December 2019, it’s really important to us that we protect that unbeaten home record.” Boardley went on to say. “I think Basildon looked really good on the break, I said to the players at half time that they looked more dangerous when we had the ball, when we lost the ball they were very quick to break and looked lively. But we take the point and move on to next week, another big game for the club as we start what will hopefully be a good Emirates FA Cup run this season” by Stuart Daynes John Denny Agencies Ltd FELIXSTOWE GLASS CO LTD Customs Clearance Specialists EST 1984 01394 276045 Specialists in all types of glass, Supporting the Seasiders domestic or commercial We provide a fast, friendly service and are here to advise you on your exact requirement.
