Boards CLUB CAPTAIN CALLUM BENNETT

lub captain for this season is Callum Bennett, one of the most talented defenders in the Division. Callum Cjoined the club in February 2015, making his debut as a substitute at home against Hadleigh United on 20th February and his full debut a week later at Whitton United. Callum has made 159 appearances for the club up to today scoring 18 goals, a few of them pretty spectacular! Callum spoke to the media team following his appointment. “This football club, the community, the squad and most importantly the bond we have with the fans are so special. I am extremely proud to have been named Captain and I am looking forward to seeing a packed Goldstar, full of Seasiders soon. It’s been far too long!” Seasiders Manager Stuart Boardley said: “With the departure of Josh Kerridge in the summer, we were looking for a new skipper for the side, Callum came to the fore very early on in pre-season with his attitude and the respect that he has from the other members of the squad, so it was an easy decision to appoint him, he has been a regular in the side for a long time, he knows the club, he knows the people, and he knows what Andy and I are trying to get across to the players ,both in terms of how we want them to act away from the football club, as well as how we want them to play on the pitch. We felt he was the perfect person for the job and we are really pleased that he accepted the role and he will now lead the group for the coming season”.

UNDER 13 GIRLS UNDER 8 ne player we have said goodbye to during our ‘extended’ summer JAMAL break which started last October Oand re-commences this afternoon is midfielder Jamal Wiggins. WIGGINS Jamma joined the Seasiders in the summer of 2015, making his debut as a second half substitute on the 8th August at home to Long Melford in a Thurlow Nunn Premier Division game, it was a winning start to the season with a single goal from Miles Powell securing the points in front of 115 supporters. He made a further 29 appearances during the 2015/16 season and up to the abrupt end to the 2020/21 season made a total of 168 appearances for the club.

A hugely popular player with the supporters and teammates during the most successful period in the club’s history it was after much reflection ‘Jamma’ asked for a move to try and guarantee regular first team football and manager Stuart Boardley has granted his request. Jamma explained the reasons for his decision to the media team following his last appearance for the Seasiders, the Pre-Season game at Brantham. “I am 28 now and it’s the right time in my career to join the club that I am going JAMAL to in order to get regular first team football. The squad that has been assembled here at Felixstowe is unbelievable, probably the WIGGINS strongest squad that Felixstowe have ever had, and I realise my playing time may be limited. I want to thank everyone that has been a part of my journey since I arrived, I have enjoyed every minute. The supporters are incredible, not just in the numbers, but the singing, the cheering, the total support they have given, win, lose or draw.” He went on to say. “Highlights for me have to be the Suffolk Premier Cup final at Portman Road and of course the promotion that got Felixstowe to where they are now. I also want to thank all the Managers I have worked with, Kevin O’Donnell, Ian Watson, Danny Bloomfield, and of course the current Management team and backroom staff. They have all helped me develop and given me the game time I have enjoyed. The squads I’ve been fortunate to be involved in have also helped so much, they have all been such great people and friends. This club is going in the right direction, and I hope it continues.” Seasiders Manager Stuart Boardley paid tribute to a great servant to the club. “Jamma wants regular guaranteed football at this stage of his career, so sadly but amicably we have agreed to his request. With the competitiveness of the squad, particularly in that central midfield area, he felt he wasn’t going to get the football that he needs. We are sad to lose him, he has been a major part of Felixstowe’s success over the last 3-4 years and has been a really popular member of the squad for a long time, so of course we are very sad to lose him but we totally understand where he’s at and the reasons behind his move. He leaves on good terms and we thank him for all he has done for the club, and wish him great success at his next club.” Delivering Quality Workmanship to our Customers since 1974 UNDER 23’S FIXTURES 2021/22 AUGUST 07 BARNSTON FIRST A 3PM ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER LEAGUE L 0-4 10 BRANTHAM ATH RES H 7.45PM ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER LEAGUE L 1-3 13 SUDBURY SPORTS A 7.45PM ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER LEAGUE 18 LITTLE OAKLEY RES A 7.30PM ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER LEAGUE 21 WHITE NOTLEY FIRST A 3PM ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER LEAGUE WWW.BROOKSANDWOOD.CO.UK

THANK YOU to all our advertisers 113 HIGH ROAD EAST, FELIXSTOWE and sponsors Tel: 01394 670431 he league was founded in 1905, following a meeting of representatives from Casuals, Civil The Service, Clapton, Ealing Association, Ilford & London TCaledonians to discuss the creation of a strong amateur Isthmian league - and so the Isthmian League was born on March 8th 1905. Original membership was by invitation only and was dedicated to the cause of amateurism Football in sport, so much so that the league champions did not receive a trophy or medals; the league motto was League “honor sufficit” (honour is sufficient). SPONSORED BY Down the following decades the original league PITCHING IN evolved & expanded to the extent that in 1962 an ‘all star’ team from the league entered the 1962 Ugandan Independence tournament, drawing both their games against Kenya and Ghana.

Having resisted for nearly 70 years, the league finally began to permit professionalism in the mid 70’s when the Football Association abolished the distinction between amateur & professional status and through some… not always happy times or easy transitions… the league champions were given a promotion place to the newly renamed Football Conference.

A quirk of this being that no team won the champions title two seasons in succession, as had happened on 22 occasions previously.

When the Athenian League disbanded in 1984 the Isthmian League second division split into North & South Divisions & over the next 30 years the league metamorphosised into its current form. A Premier Division of 22 teams and three lower divisions North Division … South Central Division … South East Division all of 20 teams.

THE PYRAMIDS – NATIONAL & NON-LEAGUE Within the Football Pyramid the Isthmian League Premier Division is at step 7 and our division is step 8 but the Non-League Pyramid is far more familiar with clubs at our level. We play at Step 4 and compete in two National cup competitions. The FA Challenge Cup (FA Cup) with clubs from Steps 1 – 10 of the National pyramid eligible to compete, and the FA Challenge Trophy (FA Trophy) for clubs from Steps 1 – 4 of the Non-League Pyramid. Below Step 4 clubs play in the FA Vase. Seasider NEXT UP... FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED VS SOUTHEND MANOR SATURDAY 21ST AUGUST 3PM Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round
