THE RIGHT HON. D. MACINTYRE PRESIDING IN COUNCIL PURSUANT to section 9 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor·General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

ORDER 1. Title and cornmencelllent-(I) This order may be cited as the Armed Forces Equivalent Ranks Order 1983. (2) This order shall come into force on the 1st day of December 1983.

2. Equivalent ranks-The equivalent ranks of naval, army, and air force officers, non· commissioned officers, and other servicemen shall, for the purposes of the Defence Act 197 1, and for the purposes of the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971, be those specified in the Schedule to this order.

NOTE-Officer Cadets: An officer cadet in the New Zealand Anny and in the Royal New zealand Air Force is an appointment, not a rank. New Zealand Army and Royal New Zealand Air Force personnel are nonnally attested as other ranks and retain that rank during the cadet appointment. Officer cadets are not appointed in the New Zealand Naval Forces.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate it; general effect. This order updates and replaces the Armed Forces Equivalent Ranks Order 1970, consequential upon the coming into force of the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971.
