Nevertheless, their nasty fusion of heavy metal, glam rock, Mott The Hoople and Ian Hunter: All the Young Dudes - The Biography Bob Dylan 's sneering hipster cynicism provided the groundwork for many British punk bands, most notably the Clash. However, their lack of success meant that they inevitably splintered apart in the '70s, with Ralphs forming Bad Company and Hunter launching a cult solo career. Early inthe band added vocalist Stan Tippens and landed a record contract with Island Atlantic in the U. By the summer, Tippens was fired, later becoming the band's road manager, and was replaced by Mott The Hoople and Ian Hunter: All the Young Dudes - The Biography Hunter. Their eponymous debut album was released in the fall of and became an underground hit, known for its fusion of Blonde on Blonde -era Dylan and heavy metal, its straight cover of Sonny Bono 's "Laugh at Me," and its pounding instrumental version of the Kinks ' "You Really Got Me. Despite all of the attention Mott the Hoople received, it didn't sell well and neither did its poorly reviewed follow-up, Mad Shadows. The band returned in with the country-tinged Wildlifewhich was its least popular record to date. -

ABSTRACT This study deals with the influence of film form in fiction in terms of narrative discourse, focusing on issues of genre, narration, temporality, and the imitation of cinematic techniques. It provides a theoretical analysis of different methodologies (intermediality theory, semiotics, narratology, genre theory) which are useful to assess how a cinematic dimension has found a place in literary writing. This research, in particular, puts forth the idea of a ‘para-cinematic narrator’, a ‘flattening of the narrative relief’, and a ‘para-cinematic narrative contract’ as constitutive items of strongly cinematised fiction. -

DVD Review - Mott the Hoople: Under Review, An Independent Critica... http://blogcritics.org/archives/2007/06/10/234828.php Blogcritics is an online magazine, a community of writers and readers from around the globe. Publisher: Eric Olsen REVIEW DVD Review - Mott the Hoople: Under Review, An Independent Critical Analysis Written by Metal Dad Published June 10, 2007 This 90 minute DVD covers the career of a great band not often remembered, but a band who wielded great influence as probably the best pre-punk band to come out of the UK. Mott the Hoople came out of the Hereford band Silence which consisted of Mick Ralphs (guitar), Verden Allen (organ), Pete Watts (bass), and Dale Griffin (drums). After adding Stan Tippens on vocals they recorded a few tracks. The group caught the eye of Island Records, were signed, and moved to London to begin recording with legendary producer Guy Stevens. Stevens got them to change the name of the band to Mott the Hoople from the novel of the same name by author Willard Manus. A veteran singer/songwriter named Ian Hunter was invited to join the band which led vocalist Stan Tippens to become the band's road manager. The band had begun to amass a loyal following by virtue of their live perfomances. In 1969 the band released their eponymous debut, Mott the Hoople, to mild success. Three more albums followed by 1971, Mad Shadows, Wildlife, and Brain Capers. In spite of their rabid fans, these albums did not sell well and did not receive very favorable press. -
