Su presencia en los Festivales de Flamenco, con la interpretación del Martinete; El Indiano, bailes de ida y vuelta, el espectáculo con el que viajó al rededor del mundo por más de 4 años, Lorca muerto que amor, que le regaló un Sold Out en el Carneggie Hall de Nueva York, y su último estreno Amor en Libertad, serán las estaciones de este viaje, en el que, además de los músicos que le han acompañado a lo largo de los últimos años, podremos contar con un fin de fiesta en el que participarán artistas invitados que se unen al bailaor en esta celebración de la vida que es el Arte Flamenco. DAVID MORALES EL BAILE Bailaor y Coreógrafo, nace en La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz, 1971). Empezó a la edad de 3 años bailando sevillanas. Con sólo seis años pisó por primera vez un escenario en el Primer Festival Flamenco de Los Barrios, donde compartió cartel con Camarón de la Isla y con Antonio Fernández "Fosforito". A los once años comienza su primera gira internacional, desde Arabia Saudí, a Reino Unido y Holanda, donde la prensa le bautiza como "El niño de los pies de oro", actuando en el Hammersmith Palace de Londres, ante más de tres mil personas, o el Barbican Theatre. -

She knows she is the worthy heir to her father’s art so now it is no longer Estrella Morente in concert but Morente in Concert. Her voice, difficult to classify, has the gift of deifying any musical register she proposes. Although strongly influenced by her father’s art, Estrella likes to include her own things: fados, coplas, sevillanas, blues, jazz… ESTRELLA can’t be described described with words. Looking at her, listening to her and feeling her is the only way to experience her art in an intimate way. Her voice vibrates between the ethereal and the earthly like a presence that mutates between reality and the beyond. All those who have the chance to spend a while in her company will never forget it for they know they have been part of an inexplicable phenomenon. Tonight she offers us the best of her art. From the subtle simplicity of the festive songs of her childhood to the depths of a yearned-for love. The full panorama of feelings, the entire range of sensations and colours – all the experiences of the woman of today, as well as the woman of long ago, are found in Estrella’s voice. -

Contact: [email protected] Journal of Jazz Studies vol. 11, no. 2, pp. 29-77 (2016) Flamenco Jazz: An Analytical Study Peter Manuel Since the 1990s, the hybrid genre of flamenco jazz has emerged as a dynamic and original entity in the realm of jazz, Spanish music, and the world music scene as a whole. Building on inherent compatibilities between jazz and flamenco, a generation of versatile Spanish musicians has synthesized the two genres in a wide variety of forms, creating in the process a coherent new idiom that can be regarded as a sort of mainstream flamenco jazz style. A few of these performers, such as pianist Chano Domínguez and wind player Jorge Pardo, have achieved international acclaim and become luminaries on the Euro-jazz scene. Indeed, flamenco jazz has become something of a minor bandwagon in some circles, with that label often being adopted, with or without rigor, as a commercial rubric to promote various sorts of productions (while conversely, some of the genre’s top performers are indifferent to the label 1). Meanwhile, however, as increasing numbers of gifted performers enter the field and cultivate genuine and substantial syntheses of flamenco and jazz, the new genre has come to merit scholarly attention for its inherent vitality, richness, and significance in the broader jazz world. -

It asks the question as to how contemporary guitarists have negotiated the relationship between tradition and modernity. In particular, the thesis uses primary fieldwork materials to question some of the assumptions made in more ‘literary’ approaches to flamenco of so-called flamencología . In particular, the thesis critiques attitudes to so-called flamenco authenticity in that tradition by bringing the voices of contemporary guitarists to bear on questions of belonging, home, and displacement. The conclusion, drawing on the author’s own experiences of playing and teaching flamenco in the North East of England, examines some of the ways in which flamenco can generate new and lasting communities of affiliation to the flamenco tradition and aesthetic. Josemi Carmona and Javier Colina sign together a musical conversation, with deep flamenco echoes and their unique jazz swing, a natural dialogue blending different musical languages. Guitar and double bass, flamenco and jazz, meet together to explore a repertoire conceived with refinement and love to detail. Gems of the Latin American songbook live together with the elegant compositions of Josemi Carmona, and with some astonishing discoveries in jazz and flamenco. Their live performance is delicate and powerful at equal parts: they are accomplices in this dialogue and dive into all genres with a deep knowledge and personality. They know how to respect the meaning of time in each music, they dominate improvisation and understand when it is necessary to pause for a rest in an exquisite nocturne melody. They speak elegantly about bitter truths, love stories, long nights of music, flamenco tangos and ‘muñequitas lindas’, and weep with a flamenco farruca with a bouquet to Piazzolla. JOSEMI CARMONA Josemi Carmona is one of the fundamental figures in the recent history of Spanish music, flamenco, and guitar. A son of maestro Pepe Habichuela, Josemi is an heir to a crucial 4-generation legacy of decisive Granada artists. At 14 years of age he joined Ketama, one of the most influential and revolutionary bands in Spanish music, selling over 1 million of their 14 albums. -

PERFILES Juana Martín (Diseñadora de moda) Antonio Carmona (Músico) La Fundación Secretariado Gitano puso en marcha, hace ahora un año, una campaña de sen- sibilización para la mejora de la imagen social de la comunidad gitana. Su principal objeti- vo es hacer reflexionar sobre lo injusto de las generalizaciones, estereotipos y prejuicios hacia los gitanos, y su principal y más grave consecuencia: la discriminación. Un año después, dedicamos un nuevo número de la revista Gitanos al tema de la "imagen social" coincidiendo con el lanzamiento de la segunda fase de esta campaña de sensibili- zación. Para la sección inicial de este número, contamos con dos personas gitanas con una destacada proyección pública: Antonio Carmona, sobradamente conocido por su trayectoria en el grupo Ketama, y Juana Martín, la diseñadora "revelación" de la Pasarela Cibeles 2005. Juana Martín (Diseñadora de moda) a diseñadora gitana-cordobesa Juana Martín Manzano, de 30 años, ha tenido un más que destacado protagonismo en los L medios de comunicación en los últimos meses, al presentar, el pasado 8 de septiembre, una colección en la Pasarela Cibeles 2005 de Madrid: "Una colección étnica, llena de vitalidad y fuerza, donde cada prenda es un arte que renueva y enriquece con ele- gancia el concepto tradicional de lo andaluz y lo gitano", como ha sido calificada en el certamen. Juana Martín comenzó su trayectoria profesional en 1999, año en el que su colección fue seleccionada, entre más de 150 propues- tas, para representar a su ciudad natal, Córdoba, en el concurso de
