Fratello, a graduate of Hackensack High School, won 667 games over 16 seasons as a head coach in the NBA Raiquan Clark, LIU, Sr, G/F,New Haven, Ct. from 1983-2007, coaching the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers Mike Holloway Jr., FDU, Sr, F, Pittsgrove, N.J. and Memphis Grizzlies. He also coached at the collegiate level (Rhode Jamaal King, SFU, Sr, G, Salisbury, Md. Island, James Madison and Villanova) and internationally, guiding the Tyler Kohl, CCSU, Sr, G/F, Allentown, Pa. Ukrainian National Team in the FIBA World Cup Championships in 2014. Last season, the award was given to Bob Hurley. At FDU Greg Herenda is in his sixth season at the helm of the Fairleigh Dickinson men’s basketball program. Last season, the Knights enjoyed their third consecutive .500 or better season in NEC play as Herenda led the team to a 9-9 conference mark. The team played a difficult non-conference slate facing off against Big Ten teams Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers along with NCAA Tournament participants Iona and Seton Hall. The team gar- nered a program-record four All-NEC honorees: Mike Holloway (Second Team), Darnell Edge (Third Team), Jahlil Jenkins (Rookie Team) and Noah Morgan (Rookie Team). The Knights defeated Saint Francis U in the NEC Quarterfinals before falling by one point at LIU Brooklyn in Hometown..North Bergen, NJ the semfinal round. College...... Merrimack ‘83 The 2016-17 Knights featured two All-NEC selections in Darian Anderson (second team) and Stephan Jiggetts (third team). Additionally, Anderson garnered NABC District 18 Second Team honors. Playing Career In 2015-16, featuring the third-youngest roster in the nation, Herenda guided one of the biggest turnarounds in Merrimack College 1979-83 the NCAA. The Knights finished with an 18-15 overall record, captured the NEC Tournament title and earned a - Business Administration berth in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The 18 victories marked a 10-win improvement from the previous season. - Marketing Furthermore, the 18 wins and 11 NEC victories were the most by an FDU squad since the 2005-06 season, while the NEC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament berths were the first for FDU since the 2005 season. Addition- Coaching Career ally, the team posted its first winning road record in 19 seasons. 1983-85 UMass Lowell (Asst.) Under Herenda’s guidance, the Knights have achieved tremendous success in the classroom. After earning the 1985-89 Merrimack (Asst.) NEC Team GPA Award for the first time in program history in 2014-15, the Knights captured the award again last 1989-94 Holy Cross (Asst.) season. Additionally, the team’s work in the classroom last season also resulted in the program’s first National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award. 1994-97 Seton Hall (Asst.) 1997-99 Yale (Asst.) Herenda was introduced as the seventh head coach in program history on Friday, April 26, 2013. He came to FDU 2000-05 East Carolina (Assoc. after serving as the head coach at UMass Lowell from 2008-2013, where he posted a record of 95-56 (.629). HC) During his first year in Hackensack, Herenda returned the Knights to the Northeast Conference Tournament 2006-07 Elgin CC (HC) for the first time since 2010. He tripled FDU’s conference win total during his first season and became the first head coach in the Garden State since December 1987 to defeat both Rutgers and Seton Hall in the same season. 2007-08 Cabrini (HC) The only other coach to accomplish the feat was at Princeton. 2008-12 UMass Lowell (HC) 2013-Pres. FDU (HC) Herenda also developed Sidney Sanders Jr. into the most improved player in the nation after the Knights’ co-cap- tain saw his scoring average rise from 4.6 points per game as a junior to 19.1 points per game, the second-highest increase in the NCAA. For his efforts, Sanders Jr. was FDU’s first All-NEC First Team performer since 2007 and Honors & Accomplishments earned All-NABC and All-Met accolades. He was also the first FDU men’s basketball player to earn the NEC 2008 Northeast Conference-10 Most Improved Player Award before Earl Potts Jr. received the honor in 2015-16. UMass Lowell 11-12 19-11 (.633) In 2008, Herenda took over at UMass Lowell, inheriting a 12-win squad from the year before. In his first season, 12-13 15-13 (.536) UMass Lowell he was named the Northeast Conference-10 and NABC East Region Coach of the Year after leading the Division II 13-14 10-21 (.323) FDU school to a 21-8 record, which started a stretch of three straight 20-win seasons and four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. At FDU Bruce Hamburger enters his sixth season as the associate head coach for the Fairleigh Dickinson men’s basketball program. The Knights have qualified for the NEC Tournament in four of five seasons with Hamburger on the staff. In 2015-16, Hamburger helped guide the Knights to a 10-win turnaround as the team earned an NEC Championship and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005.

Prior To FDU Hamburger came to Hackensack via Jersey City after coaching at Saint Peter’s from 2010-2013. While at St. Peter’s, the team made the NCAA Tournament during his first year (2010-11). Hamburger’s leadership resulted in the 10th team to make the NCAA Tournament in his 16 years as an assistant coach.

Prior to working at Saint Peter’s, Hamburger was an assistant coach at Caldwell College, after spending two seasons as an assistant coach for the New York Liberty of the WNBA.

Along with his time at Caldwell and in the WNBA, Hamburger brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the Knights’ staff. He served as the head coach at Kean University for 11 years, where he is the all-time winningest coach. Hamburger coached his alma mater to four appear- ances in the ECAC Tournament, winning the ECAC title in 2005, and advanced to the finals again in 2006. He also led Kean to an appearance in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament in 2001.

Prior to coaching at Kean, Hamburger was an assistant coach at Seton Hall under P.J. Carlesimo for nine years, beginning in 1986. The Pi- rates won two Big East Tournament titles and made six appearances in the NCAA Tournament during his tenure, including the 1989 run to the NCAA championship game. The team was inducted into the Seton Hall Athletic Hall of Fame in June 2014.

Hamburger began his coaching career in 1984 at Trenton State, where he was an assistant coach under Kevin Bannon for two seasons.

2018-19 Fairleigh Dickinson Men’s Basketball Game 4 #uKnighted Fairleigh Dickinson Coaching Staff PATRICK SELLERS Assistant Coach | Second Season Patrick Sellers is in his second season with the Knights after joining the men’s basketball program as an assistant coach in October 2017. Sellers joins the Knights after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at DePaul as a member of head coach Dave Leitao’s staff.

Prior to arriving at DePaul, Sellers served in the same capacity at fellow BIG EAST school Creighton. Prior to Creighton, Sellers made collegiate coaching stops at Central Connecticut State (1999-03), Massachusetts (2003-04), Connecticut (2004-10) and Hofstra (2011-13).

In his first season on the DePaul staff, Sellers helped the Blue Demons’ development and registered a pair of wins over ranked op- ponents including No. 11 Providence and No. 20 George Washington. The win over GW was the largest margin of victory in program history by an unranked DePaul team over a ranked opponent. Off the court, the team placed an impressive 11 players on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and was honored with the NABC’s Team Academic Excellence Award. Individually, Eli Cain was named to the BIG EAST’s All-Freshman Team.

In his two seasons in Omaha, Sellers helped the Bluejays transition into the while the Bluejays lead the nation in three-pointers made, three-point percentage and assist/turnover ratio in his first season led by National Player of the Year – and current New York Knick – Doug McDermott.

Before his arrival in Omaha, Sellers spent the two seasons as an assistant coach at Hofstra. In his second season with the Pride, Sellers was named the program’s interim head coach before accepting the position on the Creighton staff.

Sellers worked at Connecticut from 2004-10, where he was instrumental in recruiting players such as Jeremy Lamb, Tyler Olander, Shabazz Napier and Roscoe Smith who helped form the nucleus of the 2011 and 2014 national champions. His primary on-court respon- sibility was working with Connecticut’s frontcourt, including future NBA players Hasheem Thabeet and Jeff Adrien.

Between his stints at Connecticut and Hofstra, Sellers spent one season in China as an assistant coach with Shanxi Zhongyu. Prior to his time in Storrs, Sellers was an assistant coach for one season at Massachusetts (2003-04) and for four years at his alma mater, Central Connecticut State (1999-2003). While at CCSU, the Blue Devils made the NCAA Tournament in both 2000 and 2002, earning regular-season and tournament Northeast Conference titles in both years.

Sellers began his coaching career in the high school ranks at St. Thomas Aquinas in New Britain, Conn. He served as an assistant for three seasons before becoming head coach in 1997. His first team won a conference title, and both his teams would advance to the state tournament.

A native of South Carolina, Sellers played collegiately at Central Connecticut State, where he graduated in 1991 with a degree in accounting. Sellers was a team captain and named East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1991 after leading the team in rebounding twice and finishing with 581 career rebounds.

Following college, Sellers played professionally in the British Basketball League for three seasons before returning to the U.S. to begin his coaching career.

PETE LAPPAS Assistant Coach | Sixth Season Pete Lappas enters his fifth season at Fairleigh Dickinson and his second as assistant coach for the Knights men’s basketball program.

Prior to his promotion to the assistant role, Lappas served three seasons as the team’s Director of Basketball Operations.

“I am extremely proud and happy to be able to promote Pete Lappas to be my next assistant coach here at Fairleigh Dickinson Univer- sity,” said head coach Greg Herenda. “From day one, Pete has put his entire heart and soul into our program and he truly deserves the opportunity to be on the court and out recruiting as much as anyone. This is a great day for Pete -- but an even better day for our basketball program.”

Since joining the program prior to the 2014-15 season, Lappas has been a key contributor to the team’s recent success, which includes a 2016 NEC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Lappas came to Fairleigh Dickinson after serving two years as a graduate assistant manager at Temple. During his first year in Phila- delphia, the Owls finished 24-10 (11-5 Atlantic 10) and made the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated NC State, before falling to Indiana by four points in the third round. Lappas graduated from Temple last spring with a master’s degree in Sport and Recreation Management.

A 2012 graduate of Boston College, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, Lappas has coached at some prestigious summer camps, including Jim Calhoun’s camp at Connecticut, Gary Williams’ camp at Maryland, Mike Rice’s camp at Rutgers and Jay Wright’s camp at Villanova. An intern with the during the summer of 2011, Lappas has also worked as an administrative as- sistant at multiple Hoop Group camps as well as an assistant to camp directors at the Reebok All-American Camp.

Lappas is the son of Steve Lappas, who was the former head coach at Villanova (1992-2001) and Massachusetts (2001-05) and now cur- rent analyst for CBS Sports Network.

Upon his hire as the director of basketball operations in 2014, Herenda said, “Obviously he has been around college basketball his entire life, and I am very excited for Pete to start his career as part of my staff here at Fairleigh Dickinson University.”
