CURRENT AFFAIRS 1. Lovlina Borgohain wins India’s third medal at the Games- Lovlina won the third Olympic medal for India. She won bronze medal after going down 0-5 against Busenaz Surmeneli from Turkey in 69kg welterweight semifinals on August 4, 2021. Achievements - The second Indian female boxer, after MC Mary Kom, to win an Olympic bronze.
First-ever Assamese woman to win the Olympic medal. Third Indian boxer to win Olympic bronze following legendary boxers Mary Kom and Vijender Singh.
2. Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021- Parliament passed Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021, on August 3, 2021 after Rajya Sabha approved the bill amidst the protest. Bill was passed by Lok Sabha on July 28, 2021 and introduced in the Lower House on July 26 during the ongoing Monsoon session.

Union Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had tabled the amendment bill that seeks to amends the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. About the Bill: Bill replaces the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021 that was promulgated on April 4, 2021. Recent amendment bill will provide for an alternate insolvency resolution process for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This resolution will be called as “pre-packaged insolvency resolution process (PIRP)”. It will introduce a time-bound process to resolve issues of insolvency of the corporate debtors within 330 days. This process of resolution is called as Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will invite India’s Olympic contingent as special guests at the Red Fort on August 15- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will invite India’s Olympic contingent as special guests at the Red Fort on August 15 when he will be delivering his eighth Independence Day speech. PM Modi will also invite contingent to his residence for interaction. Tokyo Olympics 2021 is observing a 228-member strong contingent from India who are participating in 18 sporting events. India’s Olympic contingent for Tokyo 2020 comprises of 127 participants from 18 sports.

India has joined the select few countries that have the capability of indigenously designing and building a state-of-the-art aircraft carrier. The maiden sea trials of the 40,000-tonne aircraft carrier have begun 50 years after its namesake played a major role in the 1971 war. The aircraft carrier was built at a cost of around Rs 23,000 crore.

Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya storms into 57 Kg finals, India assured fourth medal- India has been guaranteed its 4th medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020, as wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya advanced into the finals of men's freestyle 57 Kg event on August 4, 2021. Ravi Kumar stormed into the finals after defeating Kazakhstan's Nurislam Sanayev in the semi-finals here at Makuhari Messe Hall A, Mat B. India is now assured to win another medal. Ravi Kumar Dahiya is the first Indian wrestler to enter the finals since Sushil Kumar in 2012 London Olympics. The final will be played on August 5th.
