This is a work-in-progress and will be occasionally appended. Apron – The portion of the stage or playing space that is downstage of the proscenium arch. In traditional proscenium-style theaters, acting on the apron was a big “no-no” because it violated the stage picture being created by the proscenium arch. Thus many older theaters have very shallow aprons. Nowadays though, Directors can’t get enough of having their actors as close to the audience as possible; despite how uncomfortable it makes some audience members. This is all done under the umbrella of ‘intimacy’ and we all know how much artists love that stuff. Sometimes the apron is referred to as the “Forestage”. (See Figure 1 and 2) Arbor – Part of a fly system. A device mounted in one of the wings, which is connected to the lift lines at the opposite end from the batten. Stage weights are stacked on the arbor to balance the load suspended from the batten. In the case of a counterweight fly system, a rope hand line is connected to the top of the arbor, passes sequentially through the head block and tension block, and is terminated to the bottom of the arbor, forming a loop.

    FROM ‘MADE IN GREECE’ TO ‘MADE IN CHINA’ ISSUE 1, September 2013 From ‘Made in Greece’ to ‘Made in China’: a 21st Century Touring Revival of Golfo, a 19th Century Greek Melodrama Panayiota Konstantinakou PhD Candidate in Theatre Studies, Aristotle University ABSTRACT The article explores the innovative scenographic approach of HoROS Theatre Company of Thessaloniki, Greece, when revisiting an emblematic text of Greek culture, Golfo, the Shepherdess by Spiridon Peresiadis (1893). It focuses on the ideological implications of such a revival by comparing and contrasting the scenography of the main versions of this touring work in progress (2004-2009). Golfo, a late 19th century melodrama of folklore character, has reached over the years a wide and diverse audience of both theatre and cinema serving, at the same time, as a vehicle for addressing national issues. At the dawn of the 21st century, in an age of excessive mechanization and rapid globalization, HoROS Theatre Company, a group of young theatre practitioners, revisits Golfo by mobilizing theatre history and childhood memory and also by alluding to school theatre performances, the Japanese manga, computer games and the wider audiovisual culture, an approach that offers a different perspective to the national identity discussion. Did you know that you are on the campus of Fairfax High School in a building designed and constructed by Fairfax students as a “Social Hall” in the 1940’s? Based on articles in the school newspaper, the students were committed to building a home in which to “socialize.” Greenway continues this commit- ment through our mission to unite communities through our productions at the Greenway Court Theatre, which give our patrons the opportunity to share in the communal experience of live theatre. Jennifer Barclay's Ripe Frenzy, produced through the National New Play Network's Rolling World Premiere program, is the culminating production of Greenway's 20th Anniversary season. In it we showcase our recommitment to producing important new works that explore the pressing social issues of our time. As we write this letter in preparation for Opening Night, we do so with the knowledge that students, teachers and parents in Santa Fe, Texas, are mourning their friends and children lost in yet another school shooting. Since Columbine, we have watched in horror as 85 similar shootings have occurred, killing 223 people. As a theatre in residence on a high school campus, we say ENOUGH, and hope that this produc- tion will inspire our audiences to interrogate society's role in the proliferation of these events, and look for ways to work toward ending them. Community Values Section 2 CONTEXTUAL BACKGROUND 11 Local & Regional Setting Regional Setting Pasadena is situated at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in the western San Gabriel Valley, approximately 10 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. This location offers numerous advantages, including convenient freeway and airport access that will continue to provide the City a competitive advantage as a regional business hub. Moreover, few localities can match the physical beauty afforded by the backdrop of the San Gabriels. San Gabriel Mountains Local Setting Located in the heart of the City, the Central District’s approximately 960 acres essentially correspond to the area recognized by Pasadena’s residents as “Downtown.” (Downtown and Central District will be used interchangeably in this document.) Included within its boundaries are the activity centers popularly known as Old Pasadena, the Civic Center, the Playhouse District, and South Lake Avenue; each makes a special contribution to this urban setting with an active mixture of uses. The Central District’s boundaries are clearly marked to the north and west by the 210 and 710 Freeways respectively, and it’s buildings are prominent features along these highways. Approaching the campuses of the California Institute of California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Pasadena City College (PCC), the eastern Technology boundary lies one to two blocks east of Lake Avenue. The southern limit roughly follows California Boulevard, except that the Specific Plan area includes the Arroyo Parkway corridor extending from the 110 Freeway into the midst of Downtown.

Build a basic understanding of applying these skills in the different venues that we work in to competently complete assigned tasks. On-sight Lighting Techniques Learning Objectives/Outcomes. Combing the technical knowledge previously gained to execute lighting request while on site, whether in a ballroom or theatre. Approaches, to lighting a presentation to aspects of theatrical lighting to meet a client’s expectations.
