Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University TRANSLATION AS A FORM OF LITERARY RELATIONSHIP OF UKRAINE DURING ITS INDEPENDENCE (2000–2013) The article is devoted to the problem of the translation of works Ukrainian poets and writers into English. The situation is analyzed of book typography and edition Ukrainian in Europe and abroad in the period from 2000 to 2013. The tendency is described in the flow of translations from the Ukrainian to foreign languages after Ukraine’s independence and are defined some prospects for the development of this activity. Conditionally independence is divided into three publishing periods. The first period of 1991–1999 was the beginning of the formation and development of independent Ukraine. The second period – 2000–2013. The third period – 2014 and to this day. The work is filled with the names of prominent Ukrainians, who create Ukrainian and translators who serve and can serve as the basis for the future strategy of popularizing Ukrainian works abroad. The important role was noted in the dissemination of high quality translation literature by publishing houses. The literature of this period is classified according to the genres in chronological order. No less important factor in the presentation of the Ukrainian word is the direct participation of the artists themselves in various cultural events, festivals and open reading. The review and analysis of translations Ukrainian literature in English during this period shows that the acquisition of the English-language reader by the translated products of Ukrainian origin is gradual, but too slow and insignificant.

Translations from Ukrainian into English language between 1991 and 2012 a study by the Next Page Foundation in the framework of the Book Platform project conducted by Nadiya Polischuk1, translated into English by Anna Ivanchenko2 February 2013 1 Nadiya Polischuk is a literary studies scholar, Ph.D., dean of world literature chair; teaches courses on world literature of the 19th and 20th centuries and methodology of contemporary literary studies. During the research, informational support was provided by Vasyl Gabor, Ukrainian writer and publisher, and Nadiya Matviyiv, assistant professor of the chair of translation studies and contrastive linguistics named after Hryhoriy Kochur in Lviv National Ivan Franko University. 2 Anna Ivanchenko is translator and interpreter This text is licensed under Creative Commons Translations from Ukrainian into English language І. Introduction General review of Ukrainian literature translations into English allows us to note certain tendencies from the very first glance; they are different from translation process of any other national literature, which is first of all explained by historical and political factors. In their turn, these factors defined the nature of translations strictly by geographic principle, i.e. English- language translations performed on the European continent and beyond. Still, we can objectively state that the latter dominate over the former. In our opinion, there are solid reasons for that, as it is in the United States of America, Canada and Australia that powerful scientific centres and Ukrainian studies institutions are located; those were established thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian intellectuals emigrating to these parts of the world after World War II.

There is probably no person nowadays who wouldn’t have heard the name of Oleg Sentsov, as his court trial was really a cause célèbre and his verdict was quite exceptional and unbelievably harsh: twenty years behind the bars. Movie director, screenwriter, and writer, he was accused of an apparent participation in the terrorist activities. And despite all the public protests and multiple addresses to the government of the country that accuses Sentsov, he still remains imprisoned. This book consists of the memoirs of people who knew Oleg very well, of the fragments of his books and film scenarios, and also of the extracts of the protocols of the testimonials of the witnesses in this totally fabricated case. This book also contains many photographs, both from the personal home archives of Sentsov and from the courtroom. However, as his friends and relatives claim, Sentsov never really liked talking about himself, but his work speaks for him, and first of all his autobiographical novels and essays.

Translations from Ukrainian into Polish Language between 1991 and 2012 a study by the Next Page Foundation in the framework of the Book Platform project conducted by Oleksandra Bratchuk1, translated into English by Anna Ivanchenko2 bibliography by Anatoliy Ivchenko3 February 2013 1 Oleksandra Bratchuk is a translator from Polish and Belarusian into Ukrainian language, co-founder of Translators and Writers Creative Union (Kyiv, Ukraine), post-graduate student at the Institute of Polish Linguistics of Marie Curie-Sklodowska University (Lublin, Poland). 2 Anna Ivanchenko is translator and interpreter 3 Anatoliy Ivchenko is a linguist, lexicographer, bibliographer, chief editor at Urbino publishing house, publisher. This text is licensed under Creative Commons Translations from Ukrainian into Polish language 1. Introduction Common Slavic ethnical and language roots, similar motives of folklore and decorative art, comparable beliefs and customs, dynastical ties as well as common history of many centuries created a solid foundation for development of Ukrainain-Polish relations. Researchers were especially interested in the problem of Ukrainian-Polish culture ties. They started treating this issue in a systemic way in early 19th century, first of all due to the existence of “Ukrainian school” in Polish romantic literature. However, understanding of these contacts is possible only if their whole history is reviewed in a comprehensive way. To present the development of these relations in a consistent way, we use time periods offered by G. Grabovich4, according to which the history of Polish-Ukrainian literary relations is divided into four main periods or stages, which are more or less similar for both literatures. The first period singled out by the researcher has no clearly defined beginning and end.
