Community Notice Board Some of you may have seen the 4.8M Canadian Canoe and the half built 5.5M Sea Kayak at the show that I built. I have an ideal, once I have completed my Sea Kayak I want to do a short trip down at Sussex Inlet, St Georges Basin area with some of the more adventurous people in the district. So whoever is interested lets start tic tacking with a day trip, considering Sussex Inlet is just over an hour away via I-92. The ideal is for a safe one day, overnight trip with other people for adventure and fun. I would also like some feedback on safe day bushwalks in the area considering the weather is cooling and we are out of bushfire season. Other consideration is there a chance of building a couple of canoes or double sea kayaks with the local youth that the TSA would then look after? To buy a Canadian canoe ($1000+) or a sea kayak ($1500+) of the shelf, is an expensive option plus they would not be looked after if the TSA, Mulwarree Trust purchased them outright. If we setup a short sharp building program we can build for about $500ea over a couple of weekends. I have developed pretty good skills in this area and would like to see the young ones get together as a team building, skill development project with assistance from other interested parties. Basically get away from the computer games, TV's and get out and have fun. The canoe that I built has done a couple of trips down the and is designed for expeditions for 2 x crew and all their equipment for a long weekend. It also has watertight buoyancy compartments for safety. The sea kayak as the name implies is also designed for expeditions in the ocean for one or two people (single or double boat) can also carry equipment for a long weekend and has six watertight buoyancy compart- ments for safety. I would appreciate some feedback in this area if anyone is interested whether as a group or a personal basis. The Collections Council of Australia

On Thursday 13 April from 10.00am, Goulburn Branch Library will host a meeting with Victoria Bullock of the Collections Council of Australia. Victoria has agreed to include us in a lightning trip to Canberra from her home state of South Australia, just prior to Easter, and would love to see representatives of local organisations as well as individuals or families with collecting interests in this area. And it’s FREE!

Victoria will discuss the role of the Collections Council of Australia, and its relationship to public and private collections around the nation.

We would therefore like to encourage representatives of all Historical Societies, Community Focus Groups with collecting interests, Museum operators, as well as anyone else with an interest in collecting, to come along and join us. Morning tea is included.

Further detail about the Collections Council can be obtained from their website at www.collectionscouncil.com.au.

Please contact Goulburn Branch Library for further information or to confirm your place for this unique opportunity. Email us at [email protected], or phone us on 4823- 4435, or come in to see us at the Civic Centre, Bourke St, Goulburn. What is a Reading Group?

Reading groups provide a forum for those wanting to combine their love of books with the opportunity to meet other readers. Members of the group select books to read, using various criteria, then meet regularly to discuss them. As a member of a reading group you can understand, appreciate and talk about the books you read plus discover new titles and writers.

Local Reading Groups: Goulburn There are 2 book groups currently running in Goulburn. Goulburn Reading Group Goulburn Reading Group (Book Club) meets on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss the book chosen for the month and choose the next one. Books discussed previously include 'My Brilliant Career', 'A Fortunate Life', 'Birdsong', 'The Idea of Perfection', 'Eucalyptus' and 'Cloudstreet' to name a few. Meetings are held at 10.00 am in the S.T.E.C. building in Chantry St. Goulburn. For details contact Jan Granger on 4845 1202 or register with the Southern Region Community College. For 2005 there will be a $10.00 fee per participant per term.

"Classic Readers" Reading Group Do you like to dip into Dickens, choose Chekhov or maybe tackle Tolkein? Then why not join the classic reader's group. Meetings are held once a month at the Goulburn Club for an informal evening and discussion about the chosen book, literature and life in general. For more information phone Annette on 4821 1833 (B.H.) or register at the Southern Region Community College. An initial registration fee of $20 applies.

Tarago & District Progress Association Inc.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PROGRESS ASSOCIATION’S PRESIDENT, MARIANNE RONAYNE

The Progress Association was formed last year to “Promote The Social and Economic Development of The Area”. To this end, we have undertaken a number of projects which I will list below.

Please be assured that we have not and will not do anything that encroaches on the privacy of residents. Any suggestions we may have would require the full support of residents and, where appropriate, council approval. We have had two meetings with representatives of clubs and associations in the district. The first was to discuss applications to The Woodlawn Trust and the second to call for a working group to submit applications for funding to other sources. This was done with the assistance of Ian Coillet from the Capital Region Area Consultative Committee. We plan to have a meeting to start this process in the near future.

The projects listed are now completed or awaiting final approval or further assistance to complete. A Draft Community plan was provided to community group representatives who attended a meeting on 27 Feb. Following feedback from these representatives a revised draft will be made available to any member of the community who would like a copy and hopefully give us feedback. This draft has also been given to Council and Parsons Brinkerhoff Consultants.

A community web site has been developed and we would like the assistance of somebody with html skills who can assist with modifications. The site will be incorporated on Tarago.com, with thanks to Dave Marcuson. By the time your read this the new tourist map sign should be in place near the entry to the Recreation Area. We plan to have copies of this made available for distribution from The Loaded Dog and The Tarago Service Centre.

The ANZAC Memorial Garden has been established with thanks to Chris Burns for her design, Goulburn Mulwaree Council for the construction, supply & planting, and Mark Quinlan & Peter Campbell for organizing the reticulation. This garden along with the Lone Pine Memorial will be dedicated on ANZAC Day, following the Gunfire Breakfast. We encourage all residents to attend this special day.

Signs indicating the presence of the tourist map and rest area facilities will be placed at the 3 entrances to the village as well as a Village Entry sign on the Bungendore Rd. It is planned to construct garden beds under the entry signs.

The RFS has completed planting around the fire shed area with the help and advice of Peter Campbell and Cid Riley (our vice-president), who has also drawn up planting plans for public areas in and around the village. These are also available for viewing.

A “Welcome Bag” is being organized to distribute to all newcomers to our area outlining the facilities, activities, contacts etc. These will also include a bumper sticker, flyers from local businesses and a copy of The Tarago Times. In the near future it is hoped to publish a booklet outlining what there is to offer here.

Negotiations are underway to survey (possibly by phone) residents re the viability of a regular bus service to Goulburn, running from Tirrannaville, Lake Bathurst, Tarago and Windellema.

As you can see we are working for and with the community and would appreciate your comments and suggestions about these and any further projects. Please do not hesitate to contact me on 4844 5518 or email [email protected].
