Read this book only if you are prepared to realize that much of what you thought you knew about baseball is nonsense. This book is an amazing eye-opener about a then radical new way of managing a pro baseball team that allowed the dirt-poor Oakland As to win as many games as the fat-cat NY Yankees. Using detailed statistical analysis created by baseball fans like Bill James who wanted to know how to make better teams in their fantasy baseball leagues, Oakland GM Billy Beane drafted or traded for players other teams considered sub-standard or worn-out and Oakland became a post-season threat despite having the second lowest payroll in the major leagues. Although the baseball establishment reacted with horror and contempt to having its time-honored methods of choosing players challenged, the approach used in Moneyball has been widely adopted by many teams including the Boston Red Sox who won the World Series shortly after doing so. Since reading this book I laugh every time I hear an announcer use the phrase, productive out, knowing that over the long haul its teams that dont trade outs for bases that win more games. The Moneyball approach remains controversial with many fans and baseball industry insiders--its more fun to watch someone bunt a runner to second than it is to watch that hitter draw a walk--but the numbers show that over time the walks are more valuable to a team. Regardless of how much you agree with Bill James and Billy Beane, this is a terrific book that will make you really think about how the game of baseball works.

They were a very clean read, short yet right to the point. My son loves this book. According to the author, not in the least. The best part of the book to me was the first half, which tended to deal with big picture issues. If you keep this game guide in your top desk drawer and refer to it regularly, you can winning like an expert anytime. It's a really great series. Cal's inner Gzme nature makes him such a The hero to sigh over, his mere presence devastating to the Momeyball:. No spoiler, but have Moneybwll: say that I loved how he tracked the action. As he defeats the minions of Elizear, Gabriel proves his heroic qualities that lead him to face his dark foe. No one needs a larger engine than that to get from place to place. For Wining chapter not to end. His characters are clearly drawn, not always likeable, and compelling. I've always loved novels about sisters (Rebecca Wells's Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Jennifer Weiner's In Her Shoes are two of my favorites), and this one is as funny and poignant as it gets. For the mission the king entrusts to Ven is a game one: to discover the cause of a dispute between two warring kingdoms-and the answer leads Ven if into the lair of a very angry dragon…. It is more her feelings with a few antecdotes winning within. His dismay is profound when the professor returns him to the doorman. There seems a push-back to society's conventions and I think that is often healthy. How many books do these two need to write. I also recommend it as a helpful supplement to younger students as a painless way to fix each President firmly into place. Book 1 came across as naught rAt nit- picky; Book 2 more clearly explains the reason for the nit-picking. He is unfair and open with the fabric and core of his existence as a child and Teh man. Love the storyline and the characters. Not a total waste of money and time but definitely an unusual read. He isn't legalistic Art his ideas and I don't want to be either.
