  • Alternative Energy Coalition Records Finding
Special Collections and University Archives : University Libraries Alternative Energy Coalition Records 1960-1981 (Bulk: 1976-1980) 8 boxes (12 linear ft.) Call no.: MS 586 Collection overview A product of the vibrant, progressive political culture of western Massachusetts during the early 1970s, the Alternative Energy Coalition played a key role in the growth of antinuclear activism. In 1974, the AEC helped mobilize support for Sam Lovejoy after he sabotaged a weather tower erected by Northeast Utilities in Montague, Mass., in preparation for a proposed nuclear power plant, and they helped organize the drive for a referendum opposing not only the proposed plant in Montague, but existing plants in Rowe, Mass., and Vernon, Vt. Forming extensive connections with other antinuclear organizations, the AEC also became one of the organizations that united in 1976 to form the Clamshell Alliance, which made an art of mass civil disobedience. The AEC Records provide insight into grassroots activism of the 1970s and 1980s, galvanized by the seemingly unrestrained growth of the nuclear power industry. The records, emanating from the Hampshire County branch, contain both research materials used by the AEC and organizational and promotional materials produced by them, including publications, minutes of meetings, correspondence, and materials used during protests. Of particular interest are a thick suite of organizational and other information pertaining to the occupation of the Seabrook (N.H.) nuclear power plant in 1979 and minutes, notes, and other materials relating to the founding and early days of the Clamshell Alliance. The collection is closely related to the Antinuclear Collection (MS 547). See similar SCUA collections: Alternative energy Antinuclear Famous Long Ago Massachusetts (West) Peace Political activism Background on Alternative Energy Coalition On Washington's Birthday in 1974, a local organic farmer and member of the Montague Farm commune, Sam Lovejoy, committed an act of civil disobedience.

Since most of our members are devoting most of their DX-ing on the exciting, domestic broadcasting stations, not only on the tropical bands (120, 90 and 60 mb), but also on the higher shortwave bands, the Club has decided again this year to expand this Survey to the fiill spectmm of 2200 - 30000 kHz I has focus on stations broadcasting to a domestic audience or relaying such broadcasts to expatriates abroad. In this issue active Clandestine stations are also included for the first time. This survey is based upon many official sources and DX-bulletins. In order to make the DBS reliable, each station frequency has been confirrned on the air by our own monitors around the world and is marked with an A or B in the list. To make this DBS up-to-date, frequencies which have not been reported heard during the past year are deleted.

domestic broadcasting survey 7th Edition, April 2005 ISSN 1399-8218 Edited by Anker Petersen Saotomean radiolisteners in a cocoa plantation. (Photo taken by the Editor) Domestic Broadcasting Survey April 2005 Seventh Edition (including Tropical Bands Survey 33rd Edition). An exclusive publication from the worldwide Danish ShortWave Club International DENMARK www.dswci.org Compiled by Anker Petersen, April 20, 2005. DSWCI Copyright. Once again the now 48 years old DSWCI is publishing its annual, completely updated Domestic Broadcasting Survey (DBS) covering the whole shortwave spectrum, including the tropical bands. Part 1 (page 4) is also the 33rd edition of the Tropical Bands Survey covering all active broadcasting stations in the range 2300-5700 kHz. Part 2 (page 14) covers the Domestic stations on international bands above 5700 kHz broadcasting to a domestic audience or relaying such broadcasts to compatriots abroad. In Part 3 (page37) the active Clandestine stations are listed in a new lay out. This survey is based upon many official sources and DX-bulletins. In order to make the DBS reliable, each station frequency has been confirmed on the air by our own monitors around the world. Depending on this worldwide monitoring effort throughout the period May 2004 – April 2005, each entry is classified in the left column using the following codes for their appearance on the particular frequencies: A: Regular. B: Irregular. C: Sporadic. D: Likely inactive. To make this DBS up-to-date and user-friendly, frequencies which have not been reported heard during the past year are deleted and moved to Part 4 (page 42). Another useful feature is the column called ”Last log” which shows the last month and year before the DBS deadline when the particular station was reported logged by a DX-er somewhere in the world. This is another way of indicating the audibility of the station.
