Flames Get First Win Of The Season The Flames snapped a four-game losing streak with their 101-65 victory over Cincinnati Christian in Liberty’s home opener on Tuesday. The Flames last win prior to Tuesday came on Feb. 20 when Liberty topped Winthrop 78-71 at the Vines Center. Season Opener Streak For the second-straight season the Flames won their home opener and for the second- straight season it came on November 21 against Cincinnati Christian. November Record Under the direction of Liberty University Head Coach Randy Dunton, the Flames have posted a 5-11 record during the month of November. Overall, Liberty has posted a 65-64 record, 44-15 at home, 9-36 on the road and a 12-13 mark at a neutral location, in the 11th month of the year. This Date In Liberty History The Flames have posted a 4-8 overall record on November 25th in the 34 seasons of the men’s basketball program. The most recent game on this date was a year ago when the Flames faced seventh-ranked Kentucky falling 81-51. In 2001 the Flames fell to Akron, 90-56. In 2000 the Flames lost to James Madison, 71-69. In 1996 Liberty defeated Maine, 64-53. In 1989 the Flames defeated Messiah, 93-71. In 1985 Liberty fell to Elizabeth City State, 78-69. In 1983 the Flames lost to Lander, 59-53. In 1980 the Flames beat Lincoln, 84-81. In 1979 the Flames beat York, 84-74. In 1977 the Flames lost to Ohio Northern, 76-70. In 1976 the Flames lost to Tennessee Temple, 81-80. In 1975 Liberty dropped a game to Ferrum JC, 78-72. In 1972 the Flames lost to Bryan, 68-59. One More Lap With Larry Blair Larry Blair, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., declared himself eligible for the 2006 NBA draft, but pulled his name out of consideration prior to the draft to return for his fourth and final season with the Flames. Liberty Picked To Finish Fifth In Big South For the second-consecutive year, Winthrop was the unanimous selection as preseason favorites in the annual Big South Preseason Basketball Pll among the 30 voters. The Eagles were the conference’s regular-season and tournament champion last year following a leaguebest 23-8 overall record and 13-3 mark in Big South games. Coastal Carolina, last year’s regular-season and tournament runner-up, finished second in the voting with 187 points, just five points ahead of No. 3 High Point (182). Charleston Southern, which has reached the Advance Auto Parts Men’s Basketball Championship semifinals the past two years, was predicted to finish fourth (121), while Liberty placed fifth in the voting (117). UNC Asheville was predicted sixth (100), followed by Radford (seventh) and VMI (eighth). Making the List Larry Blair earned preseason honors in seven different 2006 publications.
