07-08 BKB Game Notes-UR.Qxp 2007-08 VMI BASKETBALL KEYDET BASKETBALL GAME NOTES KEYDET BASKETBALL GAME NOTES KEYDET BASKETBALL GAME NOTES Keydets On Three-Game Winning Streak Entering Game at Richmond VMI Looks to Improve to 4-0 Against In-State Opponents VMI improved its record to 6-5 with a 83-72 victory at William & Mary on Thursday, Dec. 20. Senior forward Reggie Williams scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds while freshman guard Austin Kenon nailed seven 3- point shots on his way to a career-high 25 points in the contest, as VMI secured its first road win of the year. The Keydets won their third straight and ended a four-game losing streak to the Tribe dating back to 1992. Meanwhile, VMI (6-55) vs. VMI also moved to 2-0 against Colonial Athletic Association foes this season and it marked the first time the Keydets RIchmond (5-66) had defeated two CAA teams in the same season since 1986-87. Sunday, Dec. 30; 6 p.m. With his 27 points against William & Mary, senior forward Reggie Williams moved into second on the Big South Robins Center career scoring list, surpassing Coastal Carolina’s Tony Dunkin. Williams, who has been selected as one of 50 presea- Richmond, Va. son nominees for the John Wooden Award, is fourth in the nation in scoring with 26.5 points per contest entering RADIO- VMI Sports Network: Friday’s play. Williams, who was also voted to the Big South Conference’s Preseason All-Conference team, is also the WREL-AAM 1450 Lexington; third-leading scorer in VMI history, while topping both the VMI and Big South scoring average charts at 22.0 ppg. The trip also marks the first-ever trip to Colorado for the program, and is the first time the Keydets have played West of the Mississippi since beginning the season at the Top of the World VMI (0-00) vs. Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska to kick off the 2003-04 season. The Keydets last played West of the Mississippi in the continental United States in 1991, when they participated in the Weber State Military Tournament in Ogden, Utah.
