12 Volunteers Sport and Recreation continues to be the largest volunteer workforce in our community with 34% of formal volunteering in our organisations. The sport and recreation industry would not be able to provide the diversity of activities without the “unpaid workforce”. The economic contribution and also the valuable “sense of community” which underpins our sport is seen in the regional and city areas. There is little fuss and everyone pitches in to make sure that local community sport happens. The resourcefulness of these communities is excellent and there always seems to be a way of solving a problem. In September 2012, we again saw the very successful Australian University Games in Adelaide and the committed, enthusiastic and capable volunteer workforce, the hall mark of sporting events in Adelaide, were out in force. The Orroroo Masters Games in April 2013 was another great demonstration of community spirit and this successful event brought many people to participate as athletes and also volunteers.
