Cormac will be on site from 0800 on Monday 30 October and will get the work completed asap but be prepared that it could take all week. Inevitably Trennick Lane will need to be closed for certain times as the road will be totally blocked by the work. Cormac will also have lorries and plant vehicles on the lane and will be parked in the Old Sports Hall car park when not in use. They will keep the road closed for as short a time as possible to minimise disruption but please plan on it being closed throughout and anything less is a bonus. When the road is closed the only access to school will be via the Snake. Parking will be on the SBA car park or overflow car park. During the works, please do not park in front of the chapel or by the fencing centre as these areas will experience two-way traffic. Head Lice It has come to our attention that a pupil in the 1st Year is suffering with head lice which is being treated. However, we need to ask all parents to check their child’s and siblings’ hair for head lice and eggs and to treat as necessary. Please also continue to check each week for 3 weeks as this problem relies on everyone’s vigilance to be eradicated. Treatment is by Wet combing – this is a method of removing lice with the regular use of a fine- toothed comb (the teeth of the comb must be 0.2 to 0.3mm apart). You need to comb through the entire head of washed hair (generously covered in conditioner) every four days for at least two weeks. It’s important that you keep doing this until there have been three consecutive sessions without seeing any lice Medicated lotion or spray is an alternative method for treating head lice. However, no medicated treatment is 100% effective. Your pharmacist will be able to recommend an over-the-counter lotion or spray Thank you for your cooperation, From the school nurses Cricket Training During Half Term Dear Players and Parents The first block of pre-season cricket training sessions will take place over the half term break. There are a number of training sessions for all age groups these are; Monday 30 October 9.15-11.15am - 1st and 2nd Year boys Monday 30 October 11.15-1.15pm – Girls’ cricket Tuesday 31 October 9.15-11.15am - 3rd and 4th Year boys Thursday 2 November 9.15-11.15am - 5th and Sixth Form boys All training will take place in the SBA. The training sessions are for all players who wish to improve their cricketing skills and knowledge and work on techniques in time before the summer begins. The sessions are open to all cricketers but I am anticipating that team players should be present. I am aware that some of you may be going on holiday. Can you please email me [email protected] to confirm that you will or will not be attending? I look forward to seeing you and working with you in preparation for next years’ cricket. Yours sincerely Mr A Lawrence Parents of 5th Year Students Following the Sixth Form Open Evening, please would any 5th Year students who would like to have a Sixth Form Taster Day e-mail Mrs Emma Williams in the Admissions Office on [email protected] providing name, form and subjects interested in studying in the Sixth Form. The days will be allocated in the first two weeks after half-term. Depending on subject options, it is possible that we will not be able to provide everyone with a Taster in these two weeks and other dates will be arranged. When 5th Year students have a Sixth Form Taster they will be allowed to follow the Sixth Form Dress Code or should wear their school uniform as normal. Archbishop Benson C of E Primary School Archbishop Benson C of E Primary School Introduction from the Headteacher Archbishop Benson Church of England School became an Academy in August 2011. The school is built within a large attractive site overlooking the beautiful City of Truro. We have a Children's Centre in the grounds which provides a variety of services for children and their families. It is a very happy and successful school. Our high standards are sustained because Staff, Governors, Parents and children work together in an atmosphere of mutual trust, care and respect - the distinguishing features of a Christian community. We aim to prepare children for life in a caring, nurturing, exciting environment where we all learn whilst having fun. Parents are always welcome, whether to discuss their child's progress, to help in school, to take part in Family Learning or to join in with our Friends of the School (FABB) activities. It has been a purposeful, busy, and happy start to the school year, but not without challenges. In his assembly this morning Mr Johnson spoke to the school about thunder and rainbows, the importance of recognising that they come from the same sky, and are part of the same climate in which we all live, flourish and support each other. The photo compilation below is a reminder of how, despite the thunder, rainbows still shine.
