For the 2010/11 season, they shared in more than €750 million. Higher bonuses in the UEFA Europa League 8 The second season of the UEFA Europa League resulted in an increase of more than 10% in the amounts distributed to the participating clubs. Nor is it a question of seeking a utopian distribution of wealth. There have always been clubs that are richer than others and there doubtless always will be. All we want is for clubs – richer and poorer alike – to spend no more than they earn and to balance their books, this being the only sure way for them to survive. To this end, with the unanimous support of all the stakeholders, and with a view to helping the clubs, we have established fi nancial fair play criteria, which we will start to apply strictly from this season. Despite moving with the times, they are, however, no longer in the best position to sort out for themselves the many problems that confront them. Corruption, money laundering, match-fixing, misplaced government interven- tion, legal disputes of various sorts, and so on, can, indeed, only be dealt with effectively if authority is clearly defined and if the status and independence of football’s governing bodies is recognised by law and they are provided with the necessary means. The Independent European Sport Review initiated by the sports ministers of the EU’s five key member states in cooperation with UEFA and FIFA is an important step in this direction. Its concludes in favour of sport being accorded a special, independent status and supports the European sport model.

Matchday Three Milan 20 October 2004 AC MILAN – FC BARCELONA STADIO GIUSEPPE MEAZZA, MILAN WEDNESDAY 20 OCTOBER 2004 at 20.45 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP F, MATCHDAY 3 AC MILAN v FC BARCELONA After the thrilling game against Celtic FC, resolved in AC Milan’s favour by two late goals, UEFA Champions League football returns to San Siro with an exciting clash between two former champions of Europe and the two teams who met in the 1994 final in Athens. Both are among the seven clubs who have opened their campaign with maximum points from two matches and the Group F table might suggest that they hold a comfortable advantage over their adversaries. However, while the two former champions are trying to take points from each other, the other Group F participants will be trying to make up ground and mount a serious challenge to the favourites. The fans are promised two epic confrontations between two of Europe’s most experienced campaigners and this match will be a special occasion for Frank Rijkaard, who after a successful playing career with AC Milan, returns to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as the head coach of FC Barcelona. Bearing in mind that the two clubs have jointly played 635 European matches and 301 in the continent’s premier competition, it’s surprising that they’ve met only four times and that they had a spell of 30 years from 1959 to 1989 without crossing paths. In the UEFA Champions League, this is only the second time that they have met on a home-and-away basis apart from the 1994 final in Athens, when Fabio Capello’s AC Milan beat Johan Cruyff’s FC Barcelona 4-0.

  • History of the Silent Revolution in Women's
Sp Soc Int J Ph Ed Sp 2016 - Volume 16 – Issue 2 HISTORY OF THE SILENT REVOLUTION IN WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL IN TURKEY WHERE CONFUSION PREVAILS BETWEEN EASTERNIZATION AND WESTERNIZATION EREN ULUÖZ1 1School of Physical Education and Sports, Çukurova University, Adana/Turkey Abstract. Previous studies have discussed that religious beliefs, traditions and social barriers seriously constrain women’s participation in physical activity and sports. In Turkey, however, although there are no restrictions against the participation of women in either physical activities or sports in the legal sense, it has been reported in many scientific research-projects conducted that certain segments of the society have a negative attitude against sports. The aim of this study was to determine the history of the women’s volleyball in Turkey where confusion prevails between Easternization and Westernization. In this connection, the paper reports on how women’s volleyball has undergone a successful silent revolution and become internationally successful by overcoming religious and traditional barriers. In conclusion, the international successes of the Turkish Women’s Volleyball in spite of its short history, has not emerged as a result of a generally widespread and institutionalized volleyball culture in the country. Ever since volleyball has emerged in Turkey, it has attained permanent success with the extraordinary contributions of the Istanbul teams with large budgets, teams owned by state organizations, company teams and individuals like Selim Sırrı Tarcan, Sabbiha Rifat Erayman and members of the Eczacıbaşı family who were devoted supporters of sports, especially women’s volleyball. Keywords: Easternization; Westernization; Turkey; Volleyball; Women Introduction Sports have been used as a vehicle of self-expression by individuals at various levels almost in all societies ever since the advent of the Modern Olympics in 1896 [1].
