An Advertising Discourse between National Self- Assertion and global Market. The article investigates into the origins of the Finnish Design discourse, which has proved so prominent and functional in recent years. While an infrastructure for the production and diffusion of arts-and-crafts items had been built up in Helsinki from the late 19th century onwards and Finland joined the vanguard of international modernism in the 1930s it took the difficult context of the Second World War and its imme- diate aftermath to firmly anchor the notion of specifically Finnish design. Items of everyday consumption, seemingly sharing certain characteristics, were thereby loaded with national connotations – an interpretation mirrored and amplified on international forums. Under the conditions of post-modern globalized markets this label has increasingly turned into a sales tool of an almost arbitrary, yet highly effective sort. The range is now being updated with four new on-trend colours to complement the previous shades of mint, peach, macaroon and dove, making the iconic object from 1977 one of this season's it pieces. The design, which imitates the structure and feel of a paper bag and was originally available in brown and white, has now been released in an intense deep blue hue and a hip stone shade as well as a friendly light blue tone (azure) and a trendy pink colour (rosé). Rosenthal Suomi/Design: Timo Sarpanevo The porcelain service "Suomi" created by the Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva was celebrated as a milestone in the history of the Rosenthal. "Suomi" embodies the Rosenthal standard for excellent design and the creation of lasting values and authenticity. Sarpaneva stands for a clear language of form, which is influenced by nature without, however, trying to imitate it. Soft flowing forms, a distinct feeling for materials and the desire for aesthetic perfection distinguish his designs. "Suomi" has gone through many stages in its development over the years. The result is an impeccable creation, in which the individual set elements all work in perfect harmony.     CONTEMPORARY ART The Library of Coosje van Bruggen / Claes Oldenburg projected to be circa 2,500 volumes Partial catalogue June 8, 2018 The Library of Coosje van Bruggen and Claes Oldenburg A towering figure in postwar American art, whose influence, from the start of Pop Art to the present day, has been profound, and whose unmistakable style is instantly recognizable around the world, Claes Oldenburg needs no introduction. His wife and collaborator, the Dutch-American scholar and artist Coosje van Bruggen (1942-2009) had a distinguished career as both a critic and curator of contemporary art, and a widely admired sculptor. Working together over the course of three decades, Oldenburg and van Bruggen produced a series of monumental sculptures, which she termed "Large-Scale Projects," that are among the most iconic of recent years. Their library is a perfect reflection of their work and their interests, with extensive resources on the movements of modern and contemporary art, from Pop and Happenings, Fluxus, Arte Povera, Minimal Art, Conceptual Art, and Land Art, to the developments of the new millenium.
