Mark Baker continued from page 1 larities, but to identify the fixes as well. Whenever a coach has made suggestions to me (Barnes) regarding my game it’s always been my practice to question it. There are two reasons for this. First, to fully grasp the idea behind a suggestion so I understand it and fully grasp the logic behind the it. Second, to see if the coach really knows what the heck he is talking about. According to Barnes, Mark is the only coach he’s worked with who could field a seemingly endless series of bowling “whys”and, because his system covers every element of the physical game, he can continue to respond with answers that makes sense. When Chris Barnes says that Mark Baker is the best coach he has ever worked with, that is quite an endorsement. In fact, it is compelling evidence supporting my belief that Mark is the premier Bowling coach on the planet. If you need more convincing evidence read what has said about Mark Baker: “Mark’s eye for seeing things is unmatched compared to any other coach that I’ve ever worked with. When I was in a really bad slump in 2008, Mark watched me bowl and in a matter of 30 minutes had me believing I could win again. He is very easy to work with because of his out going personality and positive attitude. He makes everyone that he comes into contact with a better bowler and a better person. I am very glad to have met Mark and he is now not only my coach but also someone that I consider a friend. Thanks, Mark, for all that you’ve done for me”. Let me repeat what Tommy Jones said: “Mark Baker’s eye for seeing things is un- matched compared to any other coach that I’ve worked with”. That compliment is from a 19-time PBA National Tournament Champion! Let that sink in. In the meantime, let me tell you what 17-time PWBA Tour Champion, Robin Romeo, has said about Mark Baker. She has known Mark for over 30 years and when she needed some tune up lessons, she called Mark. She found that everything about his reputation as a great coach was true. She was immediately impressed with his coaching eye and agreed with is coaching philosophy. She was impressed with Mark’s bowling knowledge and his organizational skills but most of all by his compassion and rapport with bowlers. She claims his communication skills and energy level are second to none and he has a won- derfully interesting way of conveying information to bowlers, regardless of their ability. To quote Robin: “Mark Baker is one of the elite coaches in the world”. What about Mark Baker’s extensive experience in the Bowling industry? His book tells how he has been active in the sport of bowling for more than 35 years, as a competi- tor, as a salesperson and now as an instructor. Mark, a Southern California native, was an avid athlete excelling in baseball and earning national recognition and accolades as an outstanding high school basketball player in addition to establishing himself as one of Southern California’s top junior bowlers ever. Mark turned professional bowler in 1982 and enjoyed a very successful bowling ca- reer, winning four PBA National Tournament titles and appearing on television as a top- five finalist on more than two dozen occasions. In the mid-1980s he established himself as one of the premier bowlers in the world, earning the “George Young High Average Award” in 1985 and a selection to the prestigious Bowlers Journal All-American First Team. Mark’s professional bowling career was shortened due to a serious back injury, but his bowling exploits earned him inductions into both the Orange County and Southern California Bowling Halls of Fame. While working as the Southern California Sales Manager for CAL Bowling Supply Mark started coaching. He was so good at coaching that his coaching business rapidly grew until he became a full-time coach. Coaching success led to Mark starting “Camp Bakes” which is now considered one of the premier bowling camps in the world. For his achievements and coaching Mark has been named one of the TOP 100 COACHES IN THE UNITED STATES by the Bowlers Journal International magazine on three separate occasions. He has also coached several PBA Champions including Chris Barnes, , Michael Fagan, Tommy Jones, Mika Koivuniemi and Bill O’Neill. In addition to all of the above let me tell you a little more about Mark Baker the in man. Every time I have come in contact with Mark, he has always been cordial San Gabriel Valley and very friendly. He al- ways greets me with a big smile that makes me feel like we have been friends for a lifetime when in fact we only see each other once or twice a year. This man is truly special, one in a mil- lion. Mark has the tempera- ment, the knowledge and the superior physical and mental abilities necessary to be the best coach on the planet. Mark Baker is the “NUMBER 1 BOWL- ING COACH IN THE WORLD”. One more point. Mark was born, bred and still lives in California. We know that “THE BEST The San Gabriel Valley USBC would like to congratulate BOWLERS IN THE Henry Lee, who bowls out of the Chaparral Lanes Youth WORLD COME FROM Program, on bowling a perfect 300 game (His first one!)
