Ryan May 2021 Examining Committee Members: Jan Fernback, Advisory Chair, Media and Communication Nancy Morris, Media and Communication Fabienne Darling-Wolf, Media and Communication Ron Becker, External Member, Miami University ABSTRACT This study considers the case of representation of transgender people and issues on American fictional television from 2004 to 2014, a period which represents a steady surge in transgender television characters relative to what came before, and prefigures a more recent burgeoning of transgender characters since 2014. The study thus positions the period of analysis as an historical period in the changing representation of transgender characters. A discourse analysis is employed that not only assesses the way that transgender characters have been represented, but contextualizes American fictional television depictions of transgender people within the broader sociopolitical landscape in which those depictions have emerged and which they likely inform. Television representations and the social milieu in which they are situated are considered as parallel, mutually informing discourses, including the ways in which those representations have been engaged discursively through reviews, news coverage and, in some cases, blogs. ii To Desmond, Oonagh and Eamonn For everything.     The Climb of Controversial Film Content by Ashley Haygood Submitted to the Department of Communication Studies in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Arts in Communication at Liberty University May 2007 Film Content ii Abstract This study looks at the change in controversial content in films during the 20th century. Original films made prior to 1968 and their remakes produced after were compared in the content areas of profanity, nudity, sexual content, alcohol and drug use, and violence. The advent of television, post-war effects and a proposed “Hollywood elite” are discussed as possible causes for the increase in controversial content. Commentary from industry professionals on the change in content is presented, along with an overview of American culture and the history of the film industry. Das liegt daran, dass es unglaublich schwierig ist, eine realistische Kriegsszene zu inszenieren, da Krieg keine alltägliche Erfahrung ist. So ist es für die Zuschauer schwer, sich vorzustellen wie grausam der Krieg wirklich ist. In „Saving Private Ryan“ wurde von Regisseur und Kameramann sehr viel Wert darauf gelegt realistische Bilder zu erzeugen. Insofern gibt es Szenen in denen sogar die Kamera Blutspritzer abbekommt – sie ist mitten im Geschehen, nimmt häufig die subjektive Sicht der Soldaten ein und drückt deren Verzweiflung im bitteren Überlebenskampf aus. Eine bedrohliche Atmosphäre wird auch erzeugt, indem während des ganzen Films mit Sounddesign gearbeitet wird. Es gibt praktisch keine Szene in der wirkliche Stille herrscht. In weiter Entfernung sind stets Bombeneinschläge oder rollende Panzer zu hören.

Protagonista al fianco di Carell in questo film che unisce tanti generi diversi è LESLIE MANN (Giù le mani dalle nostre figlie, Tutte contro lui -The Other Woman) nei panni di Nicol, la vicina compassionevole che fa breccia nel cuore di Mark e viene aggiunta ai personaggi femminili di Marwen.
