Thomas Seniors Development Under 16’s Under 13’s Under 11’s Seniors Development Under 16’s Under 13’s Under 11’s Merimbula Diggers, Tathra Sea Eagles in battle for grand final berth THE Sea Eagles will be in the hunt for a grand final berth when they meet the Merimbula Diggers on Saturday. The Diggers drew level with the two-year undefeated Pambula Panthers last weekend and will pose a huge challenge. However, no matter the outcome, the Tathra skipper is delighted with his team’s effort this year and the chance to play more finals football. “We were rapt to get the win last weekend and we’re looking forward to the challenge and playing more finals footy,” Luke Taylor said. “No matter what happens, we’ve achieved a fair bit this year, but hopefully we can get the job done. “If we play like we did on Saturday we feel like we have every chance.” The side will certainly be an underdog going against the Diggers, but Taylor said not many would have put faith in Merimbula to match the Panthers last week. “We’ve got the belief in ourselves internally, it’s just really important that the town and community gets behind the boys,” he said. With community spirit in mind, the club hosted a very relaxed final training session last night with supporters wel- comed along to a taco dinner. Excitement is building around the club, too with numbers at training at an all-time high. “After the mid-season talk, the intensity is right up,” Taylor said. “We still want to have fun and enjoy ourselves, but everyone has committed and you make sure you don’t leave any stone unturned. “Lots of people don’t get the chance to play finals football.” He said the team’s position was up in the air until a few weeks ago, so the past month has been like playing in the fi- nals; every match could be your last. “Any finals game, you go in with that mindset, you really don’t flirt with form or leave anything on the park,” Taylor said. “We’ve been playing like that for about a month, but the next step is getting into a grand final so it’s massive.” Last weekend it was a handful of club veterans stepping up in a big way to get Tathra clear of Bega. Against Merimbula, Taylor is hoping for a similar show, but said he would be happy as long as everyone gave their best. “In these big games, it’s your first preference to have the veterans stand up,” he said. “But we don’t expect miracles of anyone, we just want them to play their role. “If the veterans can have a bit of an impact that drags some of the young guys through.” The club is urging sponsors, past players and supporters to get along to the Berrambool Oval, Merimbula, on Saturday to cheer on the guys in the hunt for a grand final spot. “It’s a bit of an advantage for them being a home ground, but we love the room to move and we’re excited to be play- ing finals footy again,” Taylor said. RISING STARS LESSON 7 – CHALLENGING BEHAVIOURS STUDENT WORKSHEET 7.1 My Premiership Team – AFL Players’ Comments on Bullying Jigsaw Activity: Cut these comments into individual strips and distribute to the class so that students piece the information together on their charts. Heritier Lumumba I can clearly remember playing an under 10s game and being targeted Club: Melbourne by the opposition with racial taunts. It got to the point where I had enough and ran off the field and said I would never play the sport again. It was easily one of my worst footy experiences. I was furious and was very young. I did not understand why I should be bullied because of the colour of my skin. Nic Naitanui Bullies think it’s cool and funny to pick on someone because of their Club: West Coast Eagles race, how they look or their size. Name-calling is one of the worst forms of bullying. Scott McMahon I think bullying should be dealt with immediately. It needs to be Club: North Melbourne stamped out of our society. Marc Murphy I think there should be a zero tolerance policy - bullying is unacceptable. Club: Carlton Andrew Swallow At first trying to deal with bullying is pretty hard. I just tried to avoid Club: North Melbourne the people who did it until they had moved on and forgotten about me. Jack Riewoldt If you are being bullied support from friends and older people helps. Club: Richmond Lindsay Thomas Bullying is taking advantage of an individual; it discriminates against Club: North Melbourne difference or weakness.

  • Fantasy Freako NAB3
CHAMPION/DATA/ISSUE 3 Hi and welcome to the third edition of the Fantasy Freako’s pre-season rave. With only one more week of NAB Cup games to come, there are still plenty of unknowns as we look at finalising our squads, with the biggest of those the rookies. Injuries hit hard last week, with both James Magner and Lachie Neale going down, while there were several others that didn’t even get a game, such as Sam Darley and Steven Morris. With squad sizes reduced back to the conventional 22 this week, it’s vital that you monitor the final teams, as this gives us the clearest indication of who will be in the mix for a Round 1 start. Enjoy this week’s read and don’t forget to follow me on twitter. Get exclusive AFL Dream Team information from the NAB Cup/Challenge games live and post match. MID-PRICED GEMS As was outlined in the ‘2012 AFL Prospectus’, the mid-priced strategy was on the way out, and the guns-rookies approach was now the way to go. In saying that though, there will always be room for a mid-pricer, especially if you pick the right player. This year there is a decent group to choose from, with the likes of Hamish McIntosh, Chris Masten and Hayden Ballantyne all players that have been spoken about glowingly this pre-season. Of that trio, Chris Masten looks to be the one to jump on early after his scintillating early season form. A perennial underachiever, this looks to be his year.

ADELAIDE CROWS SAM JACOBS (Ruck) $502,700 Jacobs was one of very few positives for Adelaide last season, averaging the ninth-most points of any ruckman in the AFL that played more than fi ve games. He ranked sixth overall for hitouts, but his hitout-to-advantage rate was the lowest of the top-10 hitout winners. JASON PORPLYZIA (Fwd) $229,600 Porplyzia presents great value for your forward line this year, but his injury history has to be taken into account. He could only manage one match last year and has played all 22 H&A games just once, which was in 2009. Despite this, he’s way too cheap to ignore. PATRICK DANGERFIELD (Fwd/Mid) $435,400 Dangerfi eld has been one of the form players in the NAB Cup, averaging 105 points per match – ranked No.1 at the club. He’s a prime candidate for a breakout season, and if he continues to be used in the midfi eld, he could very well exceed his 2011 average of 80 points per game. Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan ADELAIDE FOOTBALL CLUB REPORT (2018 - 2019) Since launching our first Innovate - RAP in late 2017, AFC have made significant inroads toward promoting a deeper respect and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures. Of the 74 deliverables within our Innovate - RAP, we have achieved 65 items leaving 9 still a work in progress or in draft form. This is encouraging given the club is still in its infancy with implementing a sustainable, meaningful and mutually beneficial RAP. Artwork throughout the RAP report created by Allan Sumner 2 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan Report 2018 - 2019 RELATIONSHIPS SIR DOUG NICHOLLS ROUND (FORMALLY INDIGENOUS ROUND) Sir Doug Nicholls Round (formally Indigenous Round) is Past players attended the Chairman’s function and had always a highlight on the AFL schedule. This year we hosted opportunities to be guest speakers in the surrounding the West Coast Eagles at the Adelaide oval where we took function rooms. Feedback from the past players was a stand together in our fight against racism in football. that it’s the most engagement they’ve had and enjoyed it immensely. All our past players were invited, 17 attended the match where they were presented an Indigenous guernsey (designed by Andrew McLeod) on the field by our current players. This was followed by a motorcade and guard of honour.
