PASTOR'S CORNER Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, PARISH SURVEY I hope you have an opportunity to have some vacation time this summer. For part of my vacation, I’ll be visiting my dad in Wichita, Kansas. He is in a long-term care nursing home. As to what else we’ll do? Mostly just listen to him. My dad is a man of few words and with Parkinson’s Disease it’s sometimes difficult for him to express himself. Even if MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR he doesn’t say much it will be good to be with him. I can’t believe it’s been three years since the death of our beloved Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Father Rod Keller. He died on August 3, 2013. Just before this date, As we look at the needs of the Parish I wrote the following in my pastor’s corner: of St. Bonaventure we have formed a Please also keep Father Rod Keller in your , his health is new position titled: Pastoral Manager. failing. Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Visit several special Holy Doors in Los Angeles: Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral Church Resurrection Church Maybe one or two more depending on traffic

We will leave on an air-conditioned coach from St. Bonaventure parking lot at 9:00 a.m. sharp. The bus only holds 47 seats so reservations are necessary. Cost is $25.00 pp all ages. Please bring your own sack lunch. We will meet Fr. Joe at the Cathedral for a tour and visit.

The year of Mercy began on the Third Sunday of Advent with the ritual “opening” of the Doors in Rome. A holy door has been used since the fifteenth century as a ritual expression of conversion. Pilgrims and penitents pass through it as a gesture of leaving the past behind, crossing the threshold from sin to grace, from slavery to freedom, and from darkness to light.

A pilgrimage is a special type of journey – one with a holy purpose. Pilgrims may travel to historical holy sites in faraway locations or they may be attentive to the holy locations that are nearby. It’s not how far one travels that makes a journey a pilgrimage. It is the intention and reflection that we bring to the trip.
